Sealing device for a wheel-hub unit provided with a rolling bearing and having a central axis and being provided with a screen joined together with an outer ring of the bearing to sealingly isolate the bearing and having a cylindrical mounting wall coaxial with the central axis and engaged with a collar of an outer ring of the bearing, and an annular reading wall, arranged transversely with respect to the axis, connected to the cylindrical wall and facing a phonic wheel mounted inside the bearing; the annular reading wall having a thickness variable radially depending on an angle of oscillation of the phonic wheel between an undeformed position. An annular front surface of the phonic wheel is equidistant from a plane perpendicular to the axis, and a possible deflected position, in which the annular front surface of the phonic wheel is arranged equidistant from an annular reading wall.

A hub-bearing unit is provided with: a rotatable hub, with an axially outer flange portion configured for engagement with a rotatable element of a motor vehicle, a bearing unit provided with a fixed radially outer ring, configured for engagement with a fixed element of the motor vehicle, a first, axially outer, crown of rolling bodies, and a second, axially inner, crown of rolling bodies, interposed between the radially outer ring and the hub. The hub also assumes the function of the radially inner ring of the bearing unit and the bell of a constant velocity joint. The hub-bearing unit is designed so that the axial distance between the center of the axially inner crown of rolling bodies and the rolling center of the constant velocity joint lies within a predetermined range according to the following formula: 

Hub-bearing unit with rotor hub

A method for axially preloading a bearing hub assembly having a rotatable hub, provided with rolling tracks and a bearing unit having a stationary radially outer ring, provided with rolling tracks, and a double row of rolling bodies disposed between the radially outer ring and the hub. The method requires the use of a bias unit and provides the following steps: a) feeding to an assembly station a hub bearing assembly, already assembled; b) verifying the value of the interference (C) between the radially outer ring and the bias unit; c) exerting an axial force (F) radially on the outer ring for the bias unit to deform under compression the radially outer ring that in turn will transmit a force to the rolling bodies via the raceways.

Method for preloading a hub bearing unit

A hub-bearing assembly provided with a bearing unit and a rotatable rotor-hub. The bearing unit includes a stationary radially outer ring, a couple of rotatable radially inner rings, and a double row of rolling elements, wherein the rolling elements are interposed between the outer ring and the inner rings, whose centers are located along a first circle having a radius, with respect to a symmetry axis of the assembly. The rotor-hub is made of a light alloy. A tubular portion is assembled on top of the radially inner rings. The tubular portion is steadily fixed a flange portion, axially external and includes a plurality of fixing holes. Axes of the fixing holes are located along a second circle defined by a radius respective to the symmetry axis of the assembly. The radius of the first circle (rolling elements) is greater than the radius of the second circle (fixing holes).

Hub-bearing having a light alloy rotor-hub

A hub-bearing unit includes a bearing unit having a stationary radially outer ring, a rotatable radially inner ring, and a double row of rolling bodies. The first row of rolling bodies, are axially outwards, interposed between the radially outer ring and a rotor-hub. The rolling bodies centers are located along a radius of a first circle, respective to a hub-bearing unit symmetry axis. The second row of rolling bodies, axially inwards, being interposed between the radially outer ring and the radially inner ring. The radially inner ring is assembled on top of the rotatable rotor-hub. A flange portion is axially external and steadily fixed to a tubular portion of the rotor-hub. The flange includes a plurality of fixing holes, whose axes are located along a radius of a second circle, respective to the hub-bearing unit symmetry axis. The first circle radius is greater than the second circle radius.

A hub-bearing assembly () for a motor vehicle wheel is provided with a flanged hub (), a disc brake rotor () and a disc-shaped sealing shield () having a radially inner mounting portion (') mounted with radial interference on a cylindrical surface () of the stationary bearing ring (), a shaped wall (&#x2032;) extending radially from an axially inner end () of the mounting portion (), and an outer, peripheral sealing edge () defining a labyrinth seal with a surface () of the disc brake rotor.

An apparatus including rigid plate having a first face and a second face, a plurality of through seats arranged as a circular crown about an axis of symmetry (A), perpendicular to each seat and shaped as a circular crown segment; a plurality of knives carried by the plate, each being axially slidingly guided into a seat, independently of the other knives; each knife has a head which protrudes from the seat from the side of the first face, a prismatic body having an axial length greater than the seat, and a wedge-shaped end, opposite to the head, which protrudes from the second face when the head substantially abuts against the first face; the wedge-shaped ends circumferentially having a first profile, complementary to that of the frontal toothing to be obtained, and the knives can be replaced totally or partially with others having a second profile different from the first profile.

A method including the steps of forming an inner ring of the wheel hub, as the joining of a spindle and an insert ring fitted onto the spindle, on the side of a first end of the spindle; axially blocking the insert ring on the spindle by plastically deforming the first end of the spindle so as to form an upset collar therewith, which axially protrudes from the insert ring; and once the step of forming the upset collar has finished, frontally obtaining on the collar, on the side opposite to the insert ring, a frontal toothing by axially impressing on the collar one or more knives in sequence, carried in an axially sliding manner by a plate.

Method of forming a frontal toothing on an inner ring of a wheel hub

A hub-bearing unit () for the wheel of a motor vehicle includes a hub () with a radial flange () and a central tubular portion () having an outer cylindrical surface (), and a bearing unit () with a dual set of rolling elements () radially interposed between an outer, stationary bearing race () and first and second radially inner bearing races () located side to side on the cylindrical outer surface () of the tubular portion () of the hub. The hub forms a conical shoulder surface () diverging in an axially outer direction, and the first inner bearing race () has a conical surface () abutting against the conical shoulder surface () of the hub.
