This invention relates to synergistic combinations of selected microbicides in combination with a second microbicide or formulation ingredient or raw material. The combinations have greater efficacy than would be expected from combinations of the individual components. The combinations include mixtures of (a) 5-Chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one+2-Methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one, (b) Methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one, or (c) 1,2-Benzisothiazolin-3-one with one or more of a variety of other compounds.

Microbicidal composition

This invention relates to synergistic combinations of selected isothiazolin-3-one microbicides in combination with a second microbicide or formulation ingredient or raw material. The combinations have greater efficacy than would be expected from combinations of the individual components. The combinations include mixtures of (a) Methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one or (b) 1,2-Benzisothiazolin-3-one with one or more of a variety of other compounds.

A microbicidal composition of 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one; and at least one of benzalkonium chloride, benzethonium chloride, benzyl alcohol, caprylyl glycol, chlorphenesin, diazolidinyl urea, ethylparaben, imidazolidinyl urea, methylparaben, phenoxyethanol, linoleamidopropyl PG-dimonium chloride phosphate, cocamidopropyl PG-dimonium chloride phosphate, propylparaben, cis-1-(3-chloroallyl)-3,5,7-triaza-1-azoniaadamantane chloride, dehydroacetic acid or its salts, benzoic acid or its salts, and sodium hydroxymethylglycinate.

Microbicidal compositions containing selected ratios of a non-halogenated 2-alkyl-3-isothiazolone and one or more (C -C ) esters of para-hydroxybenzoic acid are disclosed as improved formulations for controlling microbial growth. In particular the combination of 2-methyl-3-isothiazolone with a mixture of methyl para-hydroxybenzoate and propyl para-hydroxybenzoate is especially effective as a microbicidal component in personal care compositions.

Method of preserving mineral slurries from microbiological attack comprising introducing a nitrite or TBIP followed by sufficient 3-isothiazolone biocide to protect the slurry from attack. Mineral slurries which are so protected are also disclosed.
