In the ring system, an RG is used for connection to an external large-capacity network, and an SG is connected to the RG. The SG functions as a clock master to synchronize whole clock signals in the system, manages traffic in the indoor backbone network, manages buses in the indoor backbone network, and monitors the physical states of transmission lines in indoor backbone network. The SG and the SPs form a unidirectional ring structure. A plurality of SPs is configured to load the user data over the indoor backbone network or extract user-desired data from the indoor backbone network to provide user-desired services to a user.

Furthermore, the optical network unit includes a synchronous optical network (SONET) demultiplexer for receiving the broadcast data from the optical line terminal to demultiplex the broadcast data according to each broadcast channel, a broadcast switch part for switching data of each broadcast channel, demultiplexed by the synchronous optical network (SONET) demultiplexer, according to each subscriber unit to deliver the data to each subscriber unit, an Internet protocol (IP) control part for receiving the communication data from the optical line terminal, a main control part for controlling switching with respect to the data according to each channel of each subscriber unit in the broadcast switch part and delivering the communication data from the IP control part to each subscriber unit, a 1394 link layer controller/physical layer controller for converting the data of each broadcast channel delivered from the broadcast switch part and the communication data from the main control part into data of an IEEE 1394 format to deliver the data of the IEEE 1394 format, and an optical transmitting/receiving part for performing optical transmission together with the subscriber units.

A high-speed wireless LAN system is disclosed. The system includes a mobile station for transmitting/receiving data encrypted by a predetermined encryption method, communicating the data to associated access points by an ultra wide-band (UWB) communication method, and communicating an encryption key according to the encryption method to said associated access points by an optical or infra-red (IR) communication method; the plurality of access points, installed in a plurality of predetermined service areas, for relaying between the mobile station and a gateway of a remote place by communicating the data and the encryption key with the mobile station located in the corresponding service area by the UWB and the optical or IR communication methods and transmitting/receiving the data and the encryption key to/from the gateway by an optical communication method; and the gateway for providing an optical interface between an internal network and an external network, being provided with a plurality of gateway sub-modules for transmitting/receiving the data and the encryption key by communicating with the plurality of access points by the optical communication method, and transmitting a subscriber service transmitted from the external network to the corresponding access point.

High-speed wireless LAN system

A GE-PON (Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network) system and media access control method for the same are disclosed. In the GE-PON system, by employing MAC attributes of the gigabit Ethernet frames, an OLT (Optical Line Termination) transmits a downstream window containing both a control frame having timeslot position and size information in association with at least two ONUs and Ethernet frames to an ODN (Optical Distribution Network). The OLT analyzes contents of RAUs in an upstream window transmitted from the ONUs in a TDMA method and received from the ODN, and permits timeslot position and size corresponding to each of the ONUs. A plurality of ONUs, connected to the ODN, have their respective timeslot position and size allocated in response to their respective information contained in the control frame of the downstream window. RAU frames are transmitted having queue information and Ethernet frames associated with the allocated timeslots. As a result, by the above MAC structure of the GE-PON system, the OLT can be quickly intercommunicated with a plurality of ONUs.

A GE-PON (Gigabit Ethernet-Passive Optical Network) system is provided that configures upstream and downstream frames on the basis of a variable-length Ethernet frame. The GE-PON system employs TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) for upstream packet transmission in a tree structure for a point-to-multipoint connection. A structure of a frame format is also provided that is capable of effectively accommodating Gigabit Ethernet traffic in the GE-PON system and a method is provided for implementing various functions such as initial ONU registration, late ONU registration, ranging, and dynamic bandwidth allocation in the GE-PON system.
