An insulation material for electric cables includes an ethylene-alpha olefin copolymer with a melting point of 30&#xb0; C. to 90&#xb0; C.; and 0.5 to 20 parts by weight of a crosslinking agent based on 100 parts by weight of the ethylene-alpha olefin copolymer. The insulation material composition is based on a non-crystalline ethylene copolymer, and thus is flexible and satisfies tensile strength and insulation characteristics in conformity with the industrial standards. The insulation material composition is suitable for an insulation of electric cables for power, control and signaling that are installed in narrow spaces, in particular, electric cables for ships.

Disclosed are a composition for a cable-covering material used in railway vehicles, and a cable for railway vehicles using the same. The present invention provides the halogen-free flame retardant composition including 100 parts by weight of a base resin including ethylene-vinylacetate copolymers; 60 to 250 parts by weight of mixed metal hydroxide as a halogen-free flame; 1 to 30 parts by weight of a flame-retardance auxiliary; 0.5 to 5 parts by weight of a silane-based coupling agent; 0.5 to 8 parts by weight of a cross-linking formulation; and 3 to 15 parts by weight of a cross-linking agent. The composition according to the present invention may be used in the cable-covering material for railway vehicles under the extreme conditions because it has excellent properties such as resistance against dynamic pressure at high temperature and durability, as well as low smoke and flame retardance upon its combustion.

Disclosed are a flame retardant composition for a cable covering material and an ocean cable using the same. The flame retardant composition of the present invention includes 100 parts by weight of a base resin; 30&#x2dc;150 parts by weight of a flame retardant; 1-30 parts by weight of a cold resistant plasticizer; 0.5&#x2dc;10 parts by weight of a silane coupling agent; 0.5-8 parts by weight of a co-crosslinking agent; and 3-20 parts by weight of a crosslinking agent, and the ocean cable using the same. The composition for a cable covering material according to present invention has an excellent oil resistance to oil components without deteriorating mechanical properties, and has a superior durability such as a cold resistance at &#x2212;40&#xb0; C. as well as minimally generates toxic gases upon firing and has an excellent flame retardancy.

Disclosed are an optical fiber unit in which at least 1-core optical fiber is mounted in and protected by a buffer tube, and an optical cable including the optical fiber unit. The buffer tube is made of a mixture, which includes a composite resin including a resin selected from polyolefin polymer, nitrile rubber and their mixture, and plasticized polyvinylchloride; and an inorganic additive, wherein, in a stress-strain curve of the buffer tube, a modulus is 5 to 50 kgf/mmin a linear region with an elongation less than 1% and a tan &#x3b4; is less than 0.5 at 30&#xb0; C. The buffer tube of the optical fiber unit may be very usefully applied to an optical cable because it may be easily cut out to ensure easy contact and gives excellent elasticity without being crushed by lateral pressure.
