An airbag for a knee airbag apparatus which is rapidly deployed upward along a shape of an instrument panel includes a front panel; and a rear panel coupled to the front panel to form an inflation chamber. The front panel neighbors to the instrument panel and the rear panel neighbors to knees of a passenger when the airbag is inflated. The rear panel includes a wrinkle portion which is deployed at a position corresponding to a housing connecting portion to which the instrument panel and a rear end of the housing neighbor when the airbag is inflated, so that an additional inflation chamber is formed.

Airbag for knee airbag apparatus

A knee airbag apparatus includes a folded airbag. The folded airbag includes an upper folded part formed by rolling an upper end of the airbag toward a lower end of the airbag after the upper end of the airbag is folded on the front panel; and a lower folded part disposed to be adjacent to the upper folded part by folding at least once a lower portion of the airbag in a direction that is opposite to the rolling direction of the upper folded part. The folded airbag includes a side folded part formed by folding a side portion of the airbag before the upper folded part is formed or by folding both sides of the upper and lower folded parts after the upper and lower folded parts are formed.

Knee airbag apparatus and method of folding airbag of the same

An airbag for a knee airbag apparatus which is rapidly deployed upward between the knees of a passenger and instrument panel includes a front panel; a rear panel coupled to the front panel to form an inflation chamber; and a hinge portion having a thin inflation thickness at a position corresponding to a housing connecting portion, at which the instrument panel is coupled to the housing, when the airbag is inflated.

A method of folding a knee airbag includes folding a lower portion of the knee airbag perpendicularly to a vertical central axis so that a lower end of the knee airbag is placed on the front panel of the knee airbag, individually folding both sides of the knee airbag toward the vertical central axis, and rolling an upper end portion of the knee airbag toward the lower portion of the knee airbag. The lower portion of the folded knee airbag is rapidly deployed toward the leg of an occupant in the initial deployment of the knee airbag, thereby minimizing time to ensure the minimum space between the instrument panel and the leg of the occupant and rapidly confining the leg of the occupant.

Knee airbag for vehicle and folding method thereof

A method for manufacturing a knee airbag cushion includes (a) preparing a panel having first and second panel surface parts and a virtual central line interposed between the first and second panel surface parts and is configured such that a distance from the virtual central line to the first panel surface part is different from a distance from the virtual central line to the second panel surface part, (b) folding the first panel surface part, (c) connecting portions of the first and second panel surface parts to each other, (d) folding an area of the virtual central line in the folding direction, and (e) forming a third sewing line to connect the first panel surface part to the second panel surface part.
