A biopsy device includes a cylindrical hollow stylet having a proximal end, a distal end, and a uniform wall thickness. The proximal end and the distal end are disposed on the longitudinal axis. A longitudinal recess forms a sample chamber and is positioned adjacent the distal end of the cylindrical hollow stylet. A longitudinal insert has a longitudinal length, a distal terminal end, and an elongate channel. The longitudinal insert is positioned within the cylindrical hollow stylet with the distal terminal end proximal to the longitudinal recess. The longitudinal insert is immovably connected to the cylindrical hollow stylet. The elongate channel is configured to maintain a fluid passageway through the cylindrical hollow stylet from the proximal end to the longitudinal recess.

With the subject invention, a container for an injection device with an injection needle is provided. The container includes a body having a compartment formed therein to accommodate the injection device in both a pre-use and a post-use condition. The body defines a first opening through which the injection device in its pre-use condition may be accessed, and the body defines a second opening into which the injection device may be directed in its post-use condition. A closure is provided for closing the first opening. The container also includes a retainer for retaining the injection device in the container in its post-use condition preventing access to the injection needle after the injection device has been used to administer an injection. Advantageously, the container of the subject invention provides not only a pre-use packaging for the injection device, but also a post-use sharps container for the injection device.

An intracorporeal tissue marker includes a first material comprising a core region of the marker. The first material has a first density. A second material completely surrounds the first material. The second material is distinct from the first material and has a second density. The first density of the first material is lower than the second density of the second material.

An intracorporeal marker for marking a site within living tissue of a host having a body of porous hydroxyapatite whose physical properties permit the body to be distinguished from human soft tissue under visualization using ultrasonic and radiation imaging modalities.

An intracorporeal marker, for marking a site within living tissue of a host, includes an outer body portion of biodegradable material. An inner body portion is located in the outer body portion. The inner body portion includes biological material that becomes calcified in the living tissue of the host over time. An agent interacts with the biological material to promote calcification of the biological material of the inner body portion in the living tissue of the host.

With the subject invention, a container for an injection device with an injection needle is provided. A cartridge or injector for holding and mixing a medical product is provided herein including a tubular body having a cylindrical wall having first and second opposing ends. The wall includes inner and outer surfaces with the inner surface having a generally constant cross-section along at least a drug mixing area. A first stopper is slidably disposed within the wall between the first and second ends, the first stopper defining a liquid-tight seal with the inner surface. A second stopper is slidably disposed within the wall between the first stopper and the first end, the second stopper defining a liquid-tight seal with the inner surface. A flexible insert is disposed at or in proximity to the second end, the insert forming a liquid-tight seal with the wall, the insert being pierceable by a medical needle or other piercing instrument. A rigid retainer is fixed to the wall having an opening therein for providing access to the insert for piercing by a medical needle. The insert extends into the retainer and forms a liquid-tight seal across the opening. Advantageously, with the subject invention, a reconstitution assembly may be provided which has a sufficiently large distal opening during assembly which allows a dry component to be introduced into the device in a dry state.

Cartridge for powder and liquid drug

A biopsy marker having radio-opaque properties that are derived in situ, based on a natural a biological response, such as for example, calcification, accumulation or tissue-concentration of a chemical agent so as to provide an imaging contrast. A biodegradable foam such as collagen foam or gelatin foam is embedded with a biological tissue that is susceptible to the calcification. Initially the marker can be imaged using ultrasound, but over time, the embedded material calcifies causing it to become visible under radiation imaging.
