The invention relates to a lighting system comprising a load comprising a parallel configuration of a first LED load having a first forward voltage, and a first switch coupled in series with the first LED load; and a second LED load, having a second forward voltage being different than the first forward voltage; a switched mode power supply comprising a switching element; an inductor; a diode; a set of output pins for coupling to the load; and a capacitor coupled across the set of output pins; wherein the switched mode power supply is arranged to provide a voltage across the set of output pins, wherein the lighting system comprises a further inductor coupled between the one of the output pins and the load.

Balance control for 2-channel CCT dimming

A device for determining a type of a power source for powering a LED lighting unit, wherein one possible type comprises a ballast originally designed for a high intensity discharge lamp and repurposed for use with an LED lighting unit. The power source type determiner monitors at least one electrical parameter of either a load or the power source itself after a power drawn by the load whose characteristic is set to a critical value. A value of the electrical parameter is used to identify a type of the power source. A value of the electrical parameter is the pulse generated by the traditional ballast for gas discharge lamp, which pulse is detected to determine the type of the power source.

Retrofit LED lighting device having improved timing event detection for increasing stable driver operation without light flicker

A retrofit lamp is to be used with a ballast. A shunt switch is provided in parallel with an output load and is adapted to shunt input terminals of the lamp using pulse width control so as to tune the current through the lighting element. This current control is used to enable compatibility with different ballasts and to provide dimming control. A detection circuit is used to detect an abnormal drive condition of the retrofit lamp and the pulse width control of the shunt switch can then be overridden by holding the shunt switch at a stable state for a certain duration. This prevents overload conditions and avoids DC signals in the event of component failures.

Dynamic control circuit

A circuit arrangement (), a detection circuit () and an LED driver circuit () is disclosed for operating at least one lighting unit, such as an LED unit, with a phase-cut operating voltage. The circuit arrangement () comprising at least an input () for receiving a phase-cut operating voltage from said power supply and/or an output () for connection to said at least one lighting unit and a pulse injection circuit, configured to determine a phase-cut operation of said power supply and to draw a current pulse from said power supply within a delay time between 200-700 &#x3bc;s after said phase-cut operation to provide a stable operation of said LED unit with the phase-cut power supply. The detection circuit () comprises at least an input () for receiving a phase-cut operating voltage from said power supply and a lamp compatibility detector (), configured to determine the presence of a parallel lamp (), connected in parallel with the detection circuit () to said phase-cut power supply during operation and to provide a compatibility signal to a LED driver circuit () corresponding to the determination of said parallel lamp (), so that said driver circuit () is set between a normal operating mode and a compatibility mode in dependence of the presence of said parallel lamp ().

Efficient lighting circuit for LED assemblies

Apparatuses for driving loads via converters comprise first circuits for interfacing phase-cut dimmers and the converters. Firing angles of the phase-cut dimmers correspond with first moments in time during periods of voltage signals presented to the phase-cut dimmers. The converters draw first current signals from second until third moments in time during the periods. Second circuits control the converters to draw second current signals from fourth until fifth moments in time during the periods, to improve an energy efficiency.
