According to an embodiment, a computer-implemented method includes defining, by a processing device, the workflow as a plurality of steps. The method further includes defining, by the processing device, a contextual information field associated with at least one of the plurality of steps. The method further includes receiving, by the processing device, contextual information associated with the contextual information field. The method further includes displaying, by the processing device, the at least one of the plurality of steps of the workflow and the contextual information associated with the contextual information field by integrating the contextual information into the at least one of the plurality of steps.

Integrating contextual information into workflow for wellbore operations

An example computer-implemented method includes defining, by a processing device, a workflow for a wellbore operation as a plurality of steps. The method further includes defining, by the processing device, a contextual information field associated with at least one of the plurality of steps. The method further includes receiving, by the processing device, contextual information associated with the contextual information field. The method further includes displaying, by the processing device, the at least one of the plurality of steps of the workflow and the contextual information associated with the contextual information field by integrating the contextual information into the at least one of the plurality of steps.

Systems, methods and devices for evaluating a condition of a downhole component of a drillstring. Methods include estimating a value of a tool parameter of the component at at least one selected position on the drillstring; and using the estimated value to evaluate the condition of the downhole component. The estimating is done using a trained artificial neural network that receives information from at least one sensor that is positionally offset from the selected position. The method may further include creating a record representing information from estimated values of the tool parameter at the at least one selected position over time. The at least one selected position may include a plurality of positions, such as positions at intervals along the component, including substantially continuously along the component.

Life-time management of downhole tools and components

An embodiment of a method of performing an energy industry operation includes storing one or more sets of instructions at a storage location accessible by a controller configured to control aspects of an energy industry operation, the one or more sets of instructions retrieved from a library of sets of instructions, each set of instructions prescribing a standard procedure for performing a process forming part of the energy industry operation, the standard procedure based on best operating practices developed from previously performed operations independent of the process to be performed. The method also includes deploying a carrier in a borehole in an earth formation and performing an energy industry operation, monitoring the operation and, in response to detecting a condition associated with the process, automatically retrieving the set of instructions corresponding to the process, and automatically performing the process by the controller according to the retrieved set of instructions.

Automation of energy industry processes using stored standard best practices procedures

A system includes a control unit including a model of the system that includes model parameters and operational conditions. The system also includes an assembly that includes one or more sensor modules and a second processor, the second processor including definitions of the model parameters and configured to determine the model parameters based on information received from the one or more sensors. The system also includes a communication medium communicatively coupling the control unit and the assembly.

The system includes two or more controllers to issue corresponding two or more commands to one or more actors to accomplish a respective activity, the actor being one of a tool to be controlled based on the command, an application to be executed based on the command, or an operator to be instructed based on the command. A method of creating and using a neural network model for wellbore operations is disclosed. The method, in one aspect, may include defining a plurality of a wellbore parameter; calculating a plurality of output values of a tool operating parameter using the plurality of values of the wellbore parameter as input to a preexisting model; and obtaining a neural network model by using the plurality of values of the wellbore parameter and the calculated plurality of output values of the tool operating parameter. The neural network may be utilized for any suitable wellbore operation, including in conjunction with a drilling assembly for drilling a wellbore.

A system for optimizing a rate-of-penetration of a drill string includes a plurality of sensors in operable communication with the drill string; and a controller in operable communication with the plurality of sensors. System and method for improved depth measurement correction

Borehole images obtained with MWD measurements have a mismatch with subsequent images obtained when measurements are repeated over the same depth interval after the drillstring has been raised up. The difference is attributable to stretch of the drillstring. This can be estimated by correlating the two images. The difference can also be estimated by monitoring drilling conditions such as RPM, WOB and torque on reentry.

Analyzing resistivity images for determining downhole events and removing image artifacts

A drilling control system provides, in one aspect, advisory actions for optimal drilling. Such a system or model utilizes downhole dynamics data and surface drilling parameters, to produce drilling models used to provide to a human operator with recommended drilling parameters for optimized performance. In another aspect, the output of the drilling control system is directly linked with rig instrumentation systems so as to provide a closed-loop automated drilling control system that optimizes drilling while taking into account the downhole dynamic behavior and surface parameters. The drilling models can be either static or dynamic. In one embodiment, the simulation of the drilling process uses neural networks to estimate some nonlinear function using the examples of input-output relations produced by the drilling process.
