The plurality of rectangular reflectors including rounded corners are in a plane parallel to the light guide plate and each reflector corresponds to a light source.

Backlight including rectangular reflectors including rounded corners and method for fabricating the backlight

A backlight includes a substrate, a plurality of light sources proximate the substrate, a first reflective layer on the substrate, and a plurality of patterned reflectors over the plurality of light sources. Each light source includes a size measured in a plane parallel to the substrate. Each patterned reflector is aligned with a corresponding light source and includes a thickness profile. The thickness profile includes a substantially flat section and a curved section extending from and surrounding the substantially flat section. The substantially flat section varies in thickness by no more than plus or minus 20 percent of an average thickness of the substantially flat section. The substantially flat section includes a size in a plane parallel to the substrate equal to or greater than the size of each light source.

A display device is disclosed. The display device includes a display panel assembly and a backlight unit positioned behind the display panel assembly, the backlight unit including a light guide plate and a backplane assembly. The backplane assembly comprises a printed circuit board and a plurality of light sources distributed thereon. The backplane assembly may further include a reflector and a support frame. The backplane assembly also includes a plurality of standoffs sized to provide a small, predetermined gap between the light sources and the light guide plate. An adhesive disposed in the gap couples the light sources to a surface of the light guide plate.

A light extraction apparatus for an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) includes an OLED emitter (), a plurality of tapered reflectors (), and a spacer layer (). Each tapered reflector includes a first surface (), a second surface () opposite to the first surface and comprising a surface area larger than a surface area of the first surface, and at least one side surface () extending between the first surface and the second surface. The spacer layer () includes a first surface coupled to the OLED emitter and a second surface coupled to the first surface of each of the plurality of tapered reflectors. Light emitted from the OLED passes through the spacer layer and into the plurality of tapered reflectors. The at least one side surface of each of the plurality of tapered reflectors includes a slope to redirect light into an escape cone and out of the second surface of the corresponding tapered reflector.

Non-contact methods of predicting an insertion loss of a test optical fiber connector are disclosed. Light is sent down the at least one optical fiber of the connector in the fundamental mode to emit an output light beam. The output-beam image is captured at different distances from the fiber end faces to define multiple output-beam images each associated with one of the multiple measurement positions. A Gaussian curve is then fitted to the multiple output-beam images to determine a mode field diameter, an offset, and a tilt of the output light beam. A Gaussian field model that incorporates the offset, the tilt, and the mode-field diameter is then used to predict the insertion loss when connecting to a reference optical fiber of a reference optical fiber connector.

Described herein are various articles that have anti-reflection properties, along with methods for their manufacture and use. The anti-reflection properties are imparted by way of an integral anti-reflection component on a surface of the articles. The articles exhibit a specular reflectance that is less than or equal to about 85 percent of a specular reflectance of the glass substrate alone when measured at wavelengths of about 450 nanometers to about 750 nanometers. The article may also exhibit a specular reflectance of less than 4 percent across the same spectrum.
