A method for identifying, recording, encoding, or reproducing electromagnetic radiation employs machine learning models. For example, each of multiple training illuminations may be measured using first and second types of systems. The first type of system may be a low-cost system that includes light sensors and measures an array of readings; the second type of system may be a precision spectrometer that measures the spectral power distribution. A trained machine learning model may predict the spectral power distribution of illumination from the array associated with the first type of system and may predict the representation of illumination understood by a spectrally tunable luminaire. The array of readings associated with the first type of system may be used to identify, record, encode, or reproduce electromagnetic radiation.

Identifying, recording, encoding, and reproducing electromagnetic radiation

Systems and methods for detection of a signal from droplets of an emulsion. An exemplary system may comprise a fluid transporter having a tube with an open end for aspirating droplets, a singulator to arrange the droplets in single file and to space the single-file droplets from one another, and a detection channel in optical communication with a detector configured to detect a signal from droplets. In some embodiments, the singulator may have a channel junction at which a stream of droplets in single file is combined with a stream of spacing fluid, and a tapered spacing channel extending downstream from the channel junction toward the detection channel. In some embodiments, the fluid transporter may suck droplet-containing fluid and spacing fluid through the detection channel from respective sources. In some embodiments, droplets may be subjected to a disaggregation routine before they are passed through the detection channel.

A multi-track illumination content editing system allows creation or alteration of content using multiple input tracks representing illumination or other electromagnetic emissions and auxiliary content representing presentations other than electronic emissions, e.g., images, audio, or video. The editing system may particularly perform mixed media editing that manipulates both illumination and auxiliary content so that output illumination or auxiliary tracks depend on both illumination and auxiliary input tracks.

A lighting system includes multiple light sources and a control system. The light sources have different emission spectra, and the control system may be configured to process a file containing lighting data to select respective intensities for emissions from the light sources. The file may particularly represent a light track that is synchronized with video content, to create a time-varying lighting ambiance for a movie or a video game.

Editing of illumination and non-illumination content

Illumination of an environment can be selected based on target colors that the illumination would provide for specific samples. One process for synthesizing the illumination includes repeatedly selecting settings for separate light sources in a luminaire system and determining a merit function of the target colors of the samples and apparent colors of the samples under illumination that the luminaire system would produce with the settings selected. The value of the merit function thus determined can be used to identify a synthesized illumination, for example, the synthesized illumination that provides a smallest value. A luminaire system can implement such a process in a luminaire or in a control system for luminaires.

A lighting system includes multiple light sources, a sensing unit, and a control system. The light sources have different emission spectra, and the sensing unit is configured to measure a spectral content of light. The control system may be configured to use measurements from the sensing unit to select respective intensities for emissions from the light sources and then independently control the light sources to emit the respective intensities. In particular, the control system can select and render a spectral distribution selected based on the light reflected from objects that are being illuminated or render a spectral distribution to supplement light from other light sources and achieve a lighting objective.

An illumination content editing system and an illumination content translator allow creation or alteration of illumination content and translation of illumination content so that illumination represented by the illumination content can be played in disparate illumination systems. Translation may particularly employ characteristics of the disparate illumination systems, and the characterizations may be determined using automated or manual processes.

A method of utilizing a light replication luminaire to match the spectral characteristics of light that is output from the luminaire to the spectral characteristics of a target light spectrum is provided. In one example, the method permits the user to assign a weight to one or more characteristics of the target light spectrum to be replicated. A best approximation of the target light spectrum is then determined, taking into account the weight assigned to each characteristic. In another example, the target light spectrum is provided to the luminaire by the user through the specification of various characteristics of the target light spectrum.

A structure for testing a luminescent film includes a Lambertian light source, an integrating sphere having an input port, and a measuring device. The Lambertian light source includes a mixing chamber having an input port and an output port, and a light emitter coupled to the input port. During testing the luminescent film is positioned between the output port of the mixing chamber and the input port of the integrating sphere. The measuring device is optically coupled to the integrating sphere.
