The invention provides methods and compositions for improving a froth flotation type separation. The method involves adding a hydrocarbon reaction product to slurry to enhance the separation. The method is particularly effective with coal separation because it increases yield without increasing ash content of flotation concentrate.

Composition and method for improvement in froth flotation

Methods for monitoring scale deposition in a water-containing industrial process are disclosed. In certain embodiments, the water-containing industrial process is an aqueous cooling system. In certain embodiments, the methods incorporate fluorometric monitoring and control techniques along with a piezoelectric microbalance sensor. A particular embodiment of a piezoelectric microbalance sensor is additionally disclosed, along with at least one method for using the particular embodiment that is independent of whether fluorometric monitoring and control techniques are utilized.

Methods and compositions for separating materials are provided. In an embodiment, the present invention provides a method of separating a first material from a second material. For example, the method can comprise mixing the first material and the second material in a slurry with a beneficiation composition. The beneficiation composition can comprise one or more fatty acid by-products derived from a biodiesel manufacturing process. Air bubbles can be provided in the slurry to form bubble-particle aggregates with the first material and the bubble-particle aggregates can be allowed to be separated from the second material.

The CGM comprises a neopolyol, an ester derived from a neopolyol, and/or an ether derived from a neopolyol. Composition for enhancing the production of crystal agglomerates from a precipitation liquor

The present invention relates to a method for separating diamond from gangue minerals. In particular, this method relates to the addition of a first reagent or reagents which contact the diamond in diamond ore slurry to at least partially remove hydrophilic coatings from the diamond surfaces. A second reagent or reagents may also be added to the slurry so that the reagent may adsorb on the diamond surfaces and thereby enhance the hydrophobicity of diamonds. The increase in hydrophobicity may improve the flotation of diamonds.

A method of monitoring and inhibiting scale precipitation and deposition from spent liquor in pulp mill evaporators and concentrators is disclosed. The method includes connecting a black liquor deposition monitor to a pulp mill evaporator or concentrator and measuring the thermal conductivity on the outer surface of the monitor. A controller interprets the measured thermal conductivity and determines a level of scale deposition. If the level of scale deposition is above a predetermined level, the controller is operable to introduce a scale-inhibiting composition to the spent liquor. The scale-inhibiting composition may include organic polycarboxylic acids; organic fatty acids; low molecular weight and polymeric aromatic acids; organic acid esters, anhydrides, and amides; low molecular weight and polymeric aliphatic and aromatic sulfonic acids; and low molecular weight and polymeric amines; and any combinations.

Composition and method for improved aluminum hydroxide production

An improved method and composition for producing aluminum hydroxide crystals in a Bayer process pregnant liquor, involve the addition of an emulsified crystallization modifier comprising a C-Cfatty acid, precursors, salts or blends thereof. The alkyl chain of the fatty acid crystallization modifier is free of functional groups. The modifier yields a commercially viable product in the presence and absence of a hydrocarbon oil which dissolves the fatty acid. Further, the modifier, prepared in either an emulsified form or as a fatty acid neat, facilitates formation of oxalate aggregates greater than 200 &#x3bc;m which may be readily screened out with minimum trihydrate loss.
