Multilayer polyketone compositions are presented. These compositions have at least one layer of polyketone, at least one layer of a polyamide having a lengthy aliphatic chain segment and a tielayer of a polyamide having a short aliphatic chain segment, a polyamide-AABB portion, a polyamide having a lengthy aliphatic chain segment, and preferably residual polyamide monomer. Processes for making these composites are also presented. In another embodiment of the invention, the tielayer is a polyamide monomer.

Multilayer polyketone structures

A coextruded laminate may be formed by coextruding a linear alternating polymer of carbon monoxide and at least one ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon (a polyketone polymer) with an other thermoplastic polymer, without the use of an adhesive or tie layer, wherein the other thermoplastic polymer is polyvinylidene fluoride, nylon-6,6, or phenoxy resin.

Coextruded laminates containing polyketone polymers

A coextruded multi-layer structure may be formed by coextruding a linear alternating polymer of carbon monoxide and at least one ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon (a polyketone polymer) with an other thermoplastic polymer, without the use of an adhesive or tie layer. The multi-layer structures exhibit strong adhesion but can be easily separated (for recycling, etc.) once the integrity of either layer is impaired. The other thermoplastic polymer is a cracked polybutylene, nylon-6, nylon-12, a copolyetherester polymer, or polyvinyl chloride.

Multi-layer structures containing polyketone polymers

Polymer blends comprising a major proportion of a polyamide polymer and lesser proportions of a linear alternating polymer of carbon monoxide and at least one ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon and of an acidic polymer containing moieties of .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid demonstrate improved properties of melt strength and melt elasticity and, over a narrower range of concentration of the linear alternating polymer, improved mechanical properties.

Polymer blends

Polymer blends exhibiting improved mechanical properties of strength and toughness comprise blends of a major proportion of a linear alternating polymer of carbon monoxide and at least one ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon with minor proportions of a polymeric polyamide and a polymer of an .alpha.-olefin and an .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid having an optional third monomer and optional partial neutralization of the carboxylic acid groups by non-alkali metal.
