A method, system, and apparatus of a universal interface compatible with one or more sensors are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method comprises acquiring an electrical power signal of an external source at a universal interface device; communicating with the one or more sensors coupled to the universal interface device; conditioning, at the universal interface device, the electrical power signal; receiving an output of the one or more sensors operating on the conditioned electrical power signal; converting the output of to an appropriate form; communicating the appropriate form to the interface; and communicating the output of the one or more sensors to one or more data processing devices communicatively coupled to the universal interface device.

Universal interface for one or more sensors

A method and apparatus of a universal interface compatibility of a sensor are disclosed. In one embodiment, a universal interface method includes acquiring an electrical power of an external source and conditioning the electrical power to provide to a sensor. The universal interface method further includes transferring the processed electrical power to the sensor, receiving a sensor output, converting the sensor output to a compatible form, and communicating the compatible form to an interface. The external source may include at least one of a USB power source, a battery, and a wall charger. The electrical power may be conditioned by at least one of detecting an input voltage, adjusting a variance of the electrical power, and altering a voltage of the electrical power. The compatible form may include at least one of a digital signal and an analog signal.

Universal interface compatibility of a sensor

A method and system of thermal effect and off-center load compensation of a sensor are disclosed. In one embodiment, a sensor includes a first conductive surface and a second conductive surface substantially parallel to the first conductive surface, a processing and communication zone of the first conductive surface and the second conductive surface having circuitry to enable communication with an external system (e.g., using a Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface) and a sensing area having partially a ceramic substrate surrounding a sensor surface and a reference surface of the first conductive surface and the second conductive surface. The sensor may include a set of electrical leads that enable the sensing area to communicate with the processing and communication zone and with external devices, and a guard ring surrounding the first conductive surface and the second conductive surface to minimize an effect of stray capacitance.

Thermal effect and off-center load compensation of a sensor

Several apparatuses and a method for enabling of analysis of a material based on capacitive technology are disclosed. In an embodiment, the apparatus includes a first conductive surface. A second conductive surface is located substantially parallel to the first conductive surface. A measurement module measures a change in capacitance produced when a material is passed between the first conductive surface and the second conductive surface. The apparatus may include a database comprising a capacitance value of the material. A change in capacitance may be compared to the database to generate an identity of the material. A reference capacitor may enable the measurement module to adjust the measurement based on an environmental condition.

Analysis of a material with capacitive technology

Methods and devices based on a microelectromechanical capacitive sensor are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method for fabricating an electromechanical capacitive device includes forming a housing of the electromechanical capacitive device using a non-conductive material and applying a conductive material on one or more areas on the housing to form one or more pairs of conductor plates.

A flexible apparatus and method to enhance capacitive force sensing is disclosed. In one embodiment, a force measuring device includes a sensor capacitor having a fixed surface and a moveable surface substantially parallel to the fixed surface, at least one spring assembly (e.g., may deflect longitudinally and/or perpendicularly to a direction of the force) positioned between the fixed surface and the movable surface (e.g., the spring assembly may alter in height in response to a force applied perpendicular to the movable surface and to cause a change in the gap between the fixed surface and the movable surface), and a circuit to generate a measurement of the force based on an algorithm that considers a change in a capacitance of the sensor capacitor. A reference capacitor may adjust the measurement of the applied force based on one or more environmental conditions.

Flexible apparatus and method to enhance capacitive force sensing

Capacitive force-measuring device based load sensing platform is disclosed. In one embodiment, a load sensing platform includes a sensor surface to have one or more capacitive force-measuring devices arranged in an array, a base surface placed on top of the sensor surface to provide a contact surface of a load applied to the load sensing platform, and a control module to process data of the one or more capacitive force-measuring devices when the load is applied to the base surface. Moreover, the load sensing platform includes a communication module of the control module to communicate the weigh, position, temperature, humidity, or vibration of the load through a wired channel and/or a wireless channel. The load sensing platform may further include an alert module to generate an alert signal when a change in the position of the load exceeds a threshold value.

Method and system of a multi-zone capacitive force-measuring based load sensing platform

A capacitive device and method with an enhanced measurement error correction capability is disclosed. In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a sensor capacitor based on one or more pairs of parallel conductor surfaces, a housing to encompass the sensor capacitor, a digitizer module in the housing to generate a digital measurement based on a change in a capacitance of the sensor capacitor when a contact zone of the housing is deflected by a force applied on the contact zone. The apparatus also includes a compensation module of the digitizer module to apply another digital measurement of one or more distortion factors to the digital measurement to minimize an effect of the one or more distortion factors to the apparatus. In addition, the apparatus includes a communication module to communicate an analog signal and/or a digital signal through a wired channel and/or a wireless channel.

Capacitive device and method with an enhanced measurement error correction capability

A method and system of a capacitive sensor based structure and method with tilt compensation capability is disclosed. In one embodiment, a sensor includes, a series of nested cantilever beams (e.g., may face each other in alternating form such that each subsequent cantilever beam is inside and oppositely facing a respective outer cantilever beam) in an upper surface of a tilt correction assembly, a spacer coupled to a contact zone of a lower surface of the tilt correction assembly, and a first conductive surface and a second conductive surface substantially parallel to the first conductive surface, wherein the spacer to cause at least one of the first conductive surface and the second conductive surface to deflect when a force is applied to a force measuring assembly above the sensor.

Capacitive sensor based structure and method with tilt compensation capability

Several methods and a system of a resistive force sensing device and method with an advanced communication interface are disclosed. An exemplary embodiment provides a force measuring device. The force measuring device includes a resistive sensor having a fixed surface and a movable surface. A spring assembly is positioned between the fixed surface and the movable surface. The spring assembly alters in height in response to a force applied perpendicular to the movable surface and causes a change in a resistance of the resistive sensor. A circuit generates a measurement of the force based on an algorithm that considers a change in the resistance of the resistive sensor. A universal serial bus (USB) interface of the circuit provides digital output of the measurement to a computing device.

Resistive force sensing device and method with an advanced communication interface

Cylindrical capacitance force sensing device/method is disclosed. In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a capacitor having two parallel conductive surfaces, a cylindrical housing with a cover plate to encompass the capacitor, and a sensor in the cylindrical housing to generate a measurement based on a change in a distance between the two conductive surfaces when the cover plate is deflected by a load applied on the cover plate. In another embodiment, a method may include applying a load on top of a housing which encompasses a capacitive sensor having two parallel conductive surfaces to produce a deflection of a cover plate of the housing, automatically generating a measurement from the capacitive sensor when a distance between the two parallel conductive surfaces is charged due to the deflection of the cover plate, and decreasing an error in the measurement via stabilizing to a mounting surface.

Cylindrical capacitive force sensing device and method

A gap-change sensing through capacitive techniques is disclosed. In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a first conductive surface and a second conductive surface substantially parallel to the first conductive surface, and a sensor to generate a measurement based on a change in a distance between the first conductive surface and the second conductive surface. The change in the distance may be caused by a deflection of the first conductive surface with respect to the second conductive surface, and the deflection may be a compressive force and/or an expansive force. The sensor may apply an algorithm that converts a change in capacitance to at least one of a change in voltage and/or a change in frequency to generate the measurement. The change in the distance may be caused by a load applied to the surface above the first conductive surface with respect to the second conductive surface.

Gap-change sensing through capacitive techniques

A multi-zone capacitive force sensing apparatus/method is disclosed. In one embodiment, an apparatus includes one or more capacitors each having an upper conductive surface and a lower conductive surface substantially parallel to the upper conductive surface, a housing with a top plate and a bottom plate to encompass the capacitors, and a sensor in the housing to generate a measurement based on a change in a distance between the upper conductive surface and the lower conductive surface of each of the capacitors when a contact zone of the top plate associated with the each of the plurality of capacitors is deflected by a force applied on the contact zone. The apparatus may also include a comparison module associated with the sensor to generate a signal indicating unevenness of a force applied on the top plate when there is any significant difference between measurements of the capacitors.

Multi-zone capacitive force sensing device and methods

An area-change sensing through capacitive techniques is disclosed. In one embodiment, a first conductive surface is substantially parallel to a second conductive surface. The first conductive surface may be moveable relative to the second conductive surface in a direction substantially parallel to the second conductive surface. A processing module may detect an overlap area between the first conductive surface and the second conductive surface. In addition, a reference surface may be substantially parallel to the first conductive surface and the second conductive surface. The processing module may be configured to measure a reference capacitance between the reference surface and a selected surface of the first conductive surface and the second conductive surface. The processing module may apply an algorithm that considers the reference capacitance and converts a change in capacitance between the first conductive surface and the second conductive surface to at least one of a voltage response and a frequency response to determine the measurement.
