A system for controlling power settings is provided that includes a plurality of components, each component configured to implement a power control algorithm. A controller is coupled to each component and configured to control a power state of each component as a function of the power control algorithm for each component. The controller comprises a state machine having a plurality of states, wherein the power control algorithm of each component is controlled by the controller as a function of a state of the state machine.

System and method to maintain optimal system performance within user defined system level power cap in a changing workload environment

A power management system includes a first power grid coupled to a first circuit breaker, and a first power distribution unit coupled to the first circuit breaker. A server device includes server components, and at least one first power supply unit coupled to the first power distribution unit. A power management subsystem in the server device is coupled to the server components and the at least one first power supply unit. The power management subsystem monitors a first input current draw of each first power supply unit, and determines whether the first input current draw exceeds a first input current limit that is based on the first circuit breaker. In response the first input current draw exceeding the first input current limit, the power management subsystem throttles the server components to reduce the first input current draw below the first input current limit.

A system for setting a power cap state is disclosed. The system includes a plurality of power monitor sensors generating power monitor sensor data and a plurality of thermal monitor sensors generating thermal monitor sensor data. A controller has a plurality of inputs configured to receive the power monitor sensor data and the thermal monitor sensor data, to assign a priority to one of two or more power cap states and to generate a control signal. A power limiting circuit coupled to the controller is configured to receive the control signal and to modify one or more power settings.

A method used for determining the capacity of a battery. The method includes determining, via a controller, if the battery has a first capacity sufficient to support a conditioning cycle. In response to determining that the battery has the first capacity sufficient to support the conditioning cycle, the conditioning cycle is activated. The method includes partially discharging the battery at a constant rate while measuring a plurality of battery parameters. A second capacity of the battery is estimated based on the battery parameters measured at the constant discharge rate. The method increases estimation accuracy of the battery's capacity.

In accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure, a method may include, during boot of an information handling system, determining a first amount of energy required by the information handling system to flush a cache integral to the information handling system to memory integral to the information handling system in response to a power loss of one or more power supplies for supplying electrical energy to the information handling system, determining whether a second amount of energy available for hold-up of one or more power supplies in response to the power loss exceeds the first amount of energy, and responsive to determining whether the second amount of energy exceeds the first amount of energy, configuring the cache.
