A temperature sensor is described having a measuring resistor, a printed circuit board onto which the measuring resistor is soldered, a cover plate which is fastened onto the printed circuit board, the cover plate having a recess in which the measuring resistor sits.

A method is described for the assembly of a magnetic core for a transformer, with the following steps: Cutting sheet metal blanks from transformer sheet, stacking the sheet metal blanks to form magnetic core segments, placing a permanent magnet at one of the magnetic core segments so that the latter is magnetized by the permanent magnet, formation of the magnetic core by placing the remaining magnetic core segments against the permanent magnet, or against a magnetic core segment already magnetized by the permanent magnet. A magnetic core is also disclosed.

An ignition coil is described for an internal combustion engine, with a housing, a transformer, which is arranged in an interior space of the housing, and potting compound, with which the interior space of the housing is cast. In accordance with this disclosure provision is made for the transformer to be covered by a mat, which is embedded in the potting compound.

A primary coil former for an ignition coil has a winding carrier surface configured for a primary coil wound thereon. Two primary winding stops limit the winding carrier surface at first and second axial ends of the carrier surface, respectively. Two holders are formed at the first axial end, each configured for holding one end of a winding wire. Two deflection domes are formed at the second axial end, one of the domes configured for guiding a winding wire back to the winding carrier surface for a clockwise winding and the other dome configured for guiding a winding wire back to the winding carrier surface for a counterclockwise winding. A groove in the winding carrier surface receives a winding wire which leads from one of the ends of the winding carrier surface up to a gap between the two deflection domes at the opposite end of the winding carrier surface.

An inventive ignition coil has a transformer that includes a primary coil, a secondary coil and a core formed from stacked metal sheets. A plastic frame holds the sheets. A housing surrounds an interior in which the transformer is arranged and the interior is sealed with an electrically insulating casting compound. The housing comprises an interior wall bounding bounds a compartment in which a part of the core is arranged, the part of the core being outside the primary coil and the secondary coil.

A method for determining a need for changing a spark plug of a combustion engine, comprising the following steps: monitoring a current flowing through the spark plug, analyzing the current and thereby determine a time interval that is indicative for the time between application of a voltage to the spark plug and formation of an arc discharge between electrodes of the spark plug, creating a signal indicative of the need to change the spark plug if the duration of the determined time interval is outside predefined bounds.

Ignition coil and method for operating

Described is an ignition coil for an internal combustion engine having a housing with a plug connector, wherein the plug connector has an elastomeric cap slid onto a tubular housing section that surrounds a terminal contact. This disclosure provides that the terminal contact is surrounded by a circumferential slot, in which an inner edge of the cap sits.

A voltage transformer circuit is described for supplying a spark plug with ignition energy and for ionic current measurement. A transformer of the circuit generates a secondary voltage from a primary voltage and applies the secondary voltage to the spark plug to ignite an electric arc. Using a current effected by the secondary voltage, a capacitor is charged to a breakdown voltage of a Zener diode bridging the same, via a first branch, which leads from the transformer to a first of two sides of the capacitor. The primary voltage is disconnected from the transformer in order to extinguish the electric arc. The capacitor delivers charges for an ionic current via a second branch, which connects the second side of the capacitor to the transformer. A measuring signal of the ionic current is obtained by measuring a voltage drop at a measuring resistor.

Voltage transformer circuit and method for ionic current measurement of a spark plug

The disclosure relates to a method for limiting the starting current of a step-up-converter that is supplied by a DC voltage source. The step-up converter has a first capacitor, a coil connected in parallel to the first capacitor, a second capacitor connected to the coil in series, and a switch connected to the second capacitor in parallel and connected to the coil in series. In a first step, an output voltage of the circuit is measured and the step-up converter is connected to the DC voltage source by closing a power switch that is connected in series to the first capacitor. In a second step, the power switch is opened upon the output voltage increasing by more than a predefined threshold and is maintained open for a predefined time. The first and second steps are repeated until the output voltage reaches a predefined final value.

Method for limiting the starting current of a step-up-converter

The invention relates to a method for generating an ion current which occurs as a direct current between a central electrode and one or more side electrodes of a spark plug of a spark ignition engine which is supplied repeatedly with an ignition voltage from an ignition voltage source, wherein the spark ignition engine is assigned an engine control unit, which, in an engine cycle, determines for each spark plug a target ignition point and/or an activation point for the ignition voltage source before the target ignition point, and a second voltage source is provided, which delivers a second voltage for the generation of the ion current, wherein the second voltage source lying in the engine cycle for a first time interval &#x394;t, which is shorter than the duration of the engine cycle, is connected to the electrodes of the spark plug, and wherein the ion current flowing as a result of the application of the second voltage to the electrodes of the spark plug takes a path which avoids the ignition voltage source.
