Aspects and embodiments provide a transceiver comprising: a transmit signal path; a receive signal path; bidirectional amplification circuitry reconfigurable for use in both the transmit signal path or receive signal path. The amplification circuitry includes at least one resonant tunnelling diode; and the control circuitry is configured to selectively couple the amplification circuitry into the transmit or receive path of the transceiver in dependence upon whether the transceiver is to operate to transmit or receive a signal. The compact and energy efficient transceiver system in accordance with aspects and embodiments recognises that the physical properties of resonant tunnelling diodes provide a mechanism for simplification of transceiver circuitry and may enable transceiver arrangements which can operate in the high mm-wave and terahertz frequency ranges.

The apparatuses are configured to receive flight data related to the aircraft, estimate a timed trajectory and a required data rate, as a function of the flight data. Then the apparatuses determine a sequence of control data for said antenna systems to form radio beams and/or connectivity spots directed towards said transceiver station, respectively to the ground basestation, while the allocated data rate is at least equal to the required data rate. The sequence of control data is then provided to respective antenna systems.

Heterogeneously equipped multi antenna system and method of operating such system

An electrically controllable RF circuit that includes an EC cell and an EAP-based actuator configured to produce relative movement of an electrode of the electrochromic cell and an electrically conducting patch or another electrode electromagnetically coupled thereto. In one embodiment, the RF circuit operates as a tunable patch antenna whose frequency characteristics can be changed by changing the bias voltages applied to the EC cell and EAP-based actuator. Advantageously, the capability to tune the antenna using two different tuning mechanisms (i.e., a dielectric-permittivity based tuning mechanism implemented using the EC cell and a geometry-based tuning mechanism implemented using the EAP-based actuator) provides more degrees of control over the pertinent antenna characteristics compared to what is available in some other antenna designs. In another embodiment, the RF circuit can operate as a tunable RF filter whose frequency characteristics can similarly be changed using these two different tuning mechanisms.

Tunable radio-frequency device having electrochromic and electro-active materials

A radio-frequency switching apparatus that can be used to turn a signal path on or off or to attenuate a radio-frequency signal. The switching apparatus comprises at least one radio-frequency input, at least one radio-frequency output, at least one transmission line providing a signal path between the at least one radio-frequency input and the at least one radio-frequency output, and at least one transition metal oxide portion. An electrically controllable RF-circuit element that includes at least one layer of an electrochromic material sandwiched between two corresponding layers of a solid-electrolyte material and placed adjacent and along a length of RF transmission line.
