An angioplasty balloon including a non-deployable stent to prevent or reduce the potential for slippage of the inflated balloon with respect to the vessel wall being treated. The balloon includes a non-deployable stent that is adapted to be secured to the balloon or angioplasty balloon catheter. The stent has a proximal end, a distal end, and at least one extension section, at least one set of serpentine rings and at least one set of elongation links that allow expansion of the strut to accommodate the inflation of the balloon. The stent is made of a material so that the stent collapses upon deflation of the balloon.

A system for the percutaneous stabilization of adjacent vertebrae includes a plurality of elongated stabilization devices. Each stabilization device includes a radius of curvature. Each stabilization device further includes a leading end and a trailing end wherein the leading end is pointed for penetration through a vertebral body.

Percutaneous spinal stabilization device and method

A stabilization device for use with a system for the percutaneous stabilization of adjacent vertebrae includes an elongated body having a radius of curvature, a leading end and a trailing end, wherein the trailing end is shaped and dimensioned to protrude from a pedicle surface once it is properly introduced within a vertebral body. It also an object of the present invention to a method for the percutaneous stabilization of adjacent vertebral bodies. The method includes inserting first and second elongated stabilization devices within the vertebrae such that they extend between adjacent vertebral bodies to securely stabilize the adjacent vertebral bodies, wherein the trailing ends of the first and second stabilization devices protrude from a pedicle surface once inserted within the vertebrae.

An intraluminal stent placeable in the lumen of the human body. Includes a generally tubular wall having a filigree-like pattern of interconnected links and open work. The pattern includes nodes that have a central hub and three arms connected to the hub. The arms are arranged circumferentially about the hub and lie adjacent the next adjacent arm of the node in a spiral-like fashion. The arms are connected to other components of the stent which, themselves, may comprise other nodes. The nodes are arranged in repeatable clusters. The disclosure also relates to a technique for making a stent and for mounting a stent on a delivery catheter by which the stent may be crimped onto the catheter in its lowest profile configuration.

Intraluminal stents

An implant for marking a location within the tissue of a patient after biopsy is self-anchoring. In one embodiment a strip of a shape memory alloy such as Nitinol can be straightened to facilitate insertion through a small gauge needle but, once exposed within the tissue to body temperature, assumes a helical coil configuration, thereby mechanically clamping to the tissue. In other embodiments the implants include barbs of resilient, deformable metal which can be straightened for insertion into a small gauge needle, but once the implant exits the forward end of the needle the barbs spring outward, anchoring the implant within the tissue. A method for implanting a plurality of markers within the tissues of a patient involves a needle having a plurality of markers sequentially loaded therewithin. The forward end of the needle is inserted into the tissues of the patient and advanced to a first target location, at which point a first marker is ejected into the tissues of the patient. The forward end of the needle is then relocated to a second target site, and a second marker is ejected into the tissues of the patient.

Post biospy tissue marker and method of use

A quick-connect coupling couples an optical fiber tissue localization device to a light source to cause the forward tip of the device to illuminate. The coupling can be quickly, easily, and reliably mounted to the fiber under operating room conditions. The coupling physically isolates the optical fiber from the light source while optically coupling the fiber to the light source, thereby preventing contamination of the light source by a contaminated optical fiber. The coupling is inexpensive to manufacture, such that the coupling is disposable after a single-patient use.

An apparatus for marking a location within the tissue of a patient includes an optical fiber whose forward end illuminates to facilitate localization of a target tissue by a physician. A strain relief tube is disposed around the outer diameter of the optical fiber adjacent the forward end of the optical fiber. An anchor means, such as a pair of hooks, is mounted to the strain relief tube for engaging the tissue of a patient to secure the tip of the optical fiber within the tissue of the patient. The anchor means is deployed to anchor the tip of the optical fiber in the vicinity of a location desired to be marked. The rearward end of the optical fiber is optically coupled to a light source to transmit light through the optical fiber to illuminate the tip, thereby to facilitate a physician in visually locating the tip.

Optical fiber tissue localization device

An echogenically enhanced medical device and method for manufacture are disclosed. A mask is applied to the surface of the medical device, and portions of bare metal are exposed through the mask. The masked device is subjected to a process which removes material from the exposed portions. The resulting depressions enhance echogenicity of the device under ultrasound. In a preferred embodiment the depressions comprise alternating rows of squares and diamonds disposed around the circumference of the device.
