A test element is disclosed for analyzing a human or animal body fluid sample. The test element includes a substrate carrying a test field with a reagent for effecting a detection reaction when exposed to the body fluid sample, and an optical data storage in which data regarding the test element, preferably calibration data, is stored. Accordingly, the data storage is a holographic data storage. A hologram reader also is disclosed for reading the data storage of such a test element. Moreover, a hologram label and a method for manufacturing a hologram label are disclosed, as is a medical product including a holographic data storage in which data regarding the product is stored.

The invention concerns a device for collecting body fluids which has at least one lancet comprising a lancet body with at least two tips of different lengths. The device is characterized in that it has a selection means with the aid of which only one tip is selected before the lancing. This selection means can have different functions and shapes. The selection means is used to select a tip from a plurality of lancet tips which have different lengths and make only this tip available for use in the lancing process. Since the various tips are attached to a lancet body, it is, for example, possible to use a bending element which bends one of the various tips out of the plane of the lancet body in order to provide only one lancet tip for use. This is especially preferable for lancet tips that are arranged linearly relative to one another.

Multi-lancet device

A system for analyzing a bodily fluid is described, which contains at least one lancing element, such as a lancet, stored in a first magazine, and at least one test element with a detection area, stored in a second magazine, the detection area containing reagents if necessary for use in detecting the analyte. The system also includes a housing, which encloses at least part of the first magazine and the second magazine and includes an opening for placement of a body part. At least one of the lancing elements and at least one of the test elements are located below the opening, and one of the magazines is located at least partly between the opening and the other magazine. The two magazines may at least partially overlap. The lancing element and the test element may be moved toward the opening so the body part resting on the opening can be lanced with the lancing element and the emerging bodily fluid can be collected using the test element at the same opening.

System for analyzing sample liquids by evaluating test elements with an analytical unit () in which a test element () to be analyzed is positioned by a holder () in an analytical position relative to the analytical unit and the system additionally comprises a position control unit to check whether an analytical area of the test element is correctly positioned relative to the analytical unit wherein the position control unit comprises a light source () to irradiate an area of the test element and preferably the analytical area (), a detector () to detect light reflected from the area and an evaluation unit, and the light source and detector are positioned relative to one another in such a manner that the light intensity of specularly reflected radiation at the detector when the test element is correctly positioned is different from a light intensity when it is incorrectly positioned and the evaluation unit recognizes any faulty positioning on the basis of the light intensity at the detector. In addition the invention concerns a method for sample analysis using a position control unit to check whether a test element is correctly positioned relative to an evaluation optics.

Method and device for checking the liquid take up of a test layer of an analysis element. The test layer is absorbent and takes up a liquid when an analysis is carried out. The test layer is illuminated with primary light to generate a light signal characteristic of the liquid take up. Secondary light emerging here from the analysis element is detected. The test layer is in contact with an optically transparent foil segment. Reliably checking liquid take up is achieved by detecting secondary light emerging from the circumferential surface of the foil.
