The invention relates to the field of remote management of devices, and devices for implementing the method. In particular the invention relates to a lifeline connection for remote manageable devices, which lifeline connection can be used to re-establish a communication that has been lost between a remote configuration management server and a remote manageable device.

Remote management of devices

A solution for managing applications in a network is proposed. A distributed application management system receives information about a first application installed on a first device in the network and determines whether a second application is required or recommended for the first device or for a second device in the network or whether a further device is required or recommended for the network based on the received information. A device management system then informs a user about a required or recommended second application or a required or recommended further device.

Solution for distributed application life-cycle management

A method of updating at least two interconnected devices in a local network, a local network comprising at least two interconnected devices and a method of operating a remote management client and a device in this local network are provided. A resource location information of an update archive is communicated from a remote management client in the local network to the other devices in said network. The devices participating in the update communicate participation acknowledgement messages to the remote management client.
