Systems and methods are provided for providing access controlled event subscription and notification and event access change alerts. In some embodiments, the systems and methods of the present invention operate within a SIP infrastructure. As such, SIP SUBSCRIBE messages and SIP NOTIFY messages are used for subscribing to and receiving notifications related to access control. According to some embodiments, event access change alerts are used in conjunction with access controlled event subscription to provide an efficient method for providing access controlled event subscription using current access control information.

A system, method and computer program product are provided for delivering media content. The system includes at least one recipient that may be associated with at least one recipient rule. The system also includes a sending entity capable of transmitting a multimedia message addressed to the recipients. The sending entity can also specify delivery rules in the message. In this regard, the multimedia message includes media content. The system further includes a network entity capable of receiving the multimedia message and identifying any recipient rules, sending entity rules and/or network rules associated with the multimedia message. The network entity can then deliver the media content to the recipients based upon respective rules. The network entity can also be capable of processing the media content based upon the rules before delivering the media content, such as by transcoding or truncating at least a portion of the media content prior to delivery.

The method includes formulating a query; sending a subscription request message to the event server, the subscription request message comprising the query; responsive to a receipt of the subscription request message, parsing the query; and accepting the subscription request if the query is successfully parsed and understood, and if appropriate resource data is available to the event server to determine a result of the query.

Disclosed is an event notification system and a method to operate an event notification system that has servers and a subscriber unit. The method includes associating with a particular event subscription an 'available' event template subscription; sending an initial notify message to the subscriber unit with a current availability of an event state of the event subscription and, for the duration of the particular event subscription, upon detecting a change in the availability of the event state sending an 'available' event template notification to the subscriber unit from the event server for informing the subscriber unit of the change in the availability of the event state. The change can be from available to unavailable, or from unavailable to available.

Method, system and computer program to provide support for sporadic resource availability in SIP event environments

An apparatus and method is provided for facilitating the seamless handoff of IP connections between access routers in an IP network. The mobile IP network includes two or more access routers each serving a different geographic service area. When a mobile terminal moves from the first service area to the second service area, the mobile terminal transmits to the second access router the IP address of the previous access router. The second access router uses this information to learn capabilities of the first access router (e.g., bandwidths supported, security schemes, and the like) for use in future handoff decisions, and exchanges capability information with the first access router. The assumption is made based on the exchanged information that the access routers are geographically proximate. When another mobile terminal transitions from one service area to another, the system selects an optimal target access router based on the previously learned information, including the inferred geographic proximity between access routers.

Determining target access routers for handover

A receiver-driven layered multicast rate control protocol technique includes receiving an information flow consisting of a group of different layers and detecting traffic congestion and cessation of traffic congestion. One or more of the group of different layers are dropped upon the detection of traffic congestion and one or more of the group of different layers are added upon the detection of cessation of traffic congestion. The dropping consists of forwarding a pause message to an upstream multicast router to instruct the upstream multicast router to discard packets and the adding consists of forwarding a resume message to the upstream multicast router to instruct the upstream multicast router to transmit packets. The adding and dropping may be performed by a local receiver downstream of the multicast router and one or more of the group of different layers may be added or dropped simultaneously in a single operation.

Receiver-driven layered multicast rate control protocol

A method supporting relocation of an Internet Protocol session during a network layer handover is provided. Application context information is sent to a device. The application context information indicates activities to be executed pro-actively before a network layer handover and includes a requested communication requirement. A first message is received from the device that includes a first indicator indicating whether or not the device can satisfy the requested communication requirement. If the first indicator indicates that the device cannot satisfy the requested communication requirement, the application context information is sent to another device, and a second message is received from the other device. The second message includes a second indicator indicating whether or not the other device can satisfy the requested communication requirement. If the second indicator indicates that the other device can satisfy the requested communication requirement, the other device is selected as a target access router for the network layer handover.

Proactive seamless service provisioning in mobile networks through transferring of application context

An arrangement and a method is provided for discovering candidate access routers in a mobile IP (Internet Protocol) network to enable seamless IP handover of a mobile node between access routers. A server element (), which is separate from the access routers () and the mobile node (MN), is provided with access router information relating to one or more access routers and with information identifying the access router serving the mobile node and reachability information about one or more access routers other than the serving access router that are within reach to the mobile node. The address of at least one of said one or more access routers within reach to the mobile node is determined in the server element on the basis of the provided information.

Candidate access router discovery

Service provisioning in mobile terminals is provided through registering and transferring of application context, which permits substantially seamless transfer of application functionality across administrative service domains. An architecture for providing application context transfer may include access routers, transcoder proxy servers, and gateway routers. A mobile terminal served by a current access router creates an application context for a session and registers it with the current access router. Around the time of handoff, the current access router transfers the application context to a new access router associated with a new administrative domain and a new access network. The new access router evaluates the application context and takes steps to provide application functionality for the mobile terminal and current sessions. These steps may include the use of a network entity, such as a transcoder proxy server, to modify data for a session and thereby provide application functionality in the new administrative domain.

A system is provided for multipoint service (e.g., web service) invocation includes a plurality of event servers and a proxy. The event servers are associated with a group address representative of at least one characteristic of the event servers, and are also associated with at least one contact address. The proxy is capable of receiving a request for invocation of a service, where the request is addressed to the group address. In response to receiving the request, the proxy is capable of mapping the group address to at least one contact address associated with the event servers, and forwarding the service invocation request to the event servers based upon the at least one contact address. In turn, the event servers are capable of receiving the service invocation request and separately invoking the requested service.

In the method, from the application context information on the mobile node is detected a first set of capabilities of a network node that that facilitate maintaining the IP session. This first set of capabilities is queried from one or more potential next network node. Applicability of the potential next network node to the relocation of the IP session is determined by the capability information on the first set of capabilities.

Optimized information transfer associated with relocation of an IP session in a mobile communications system

The present invention provides a relocation of content sources that provide media content to a mobile terminal (mobile node) when a network layer-level handoff occurs. The relocation of content sources enables the mobile terminal to seamlessly execute an application that utilizes the media content from a current content source before the handoff and from a new content source after the handoff. The mobile terminal registers with a current access router in order to inform the access router about application context information. The current access router informs a new access router about the impending handoff. The new access router consequently discovers the new content source.
