An expandable stent and delivery system are provided for treating body vessel defects, such as partially occluded blood vessels and aneurysms. The delivery system includes a core member having a threaded core member portion configured to interlock with a threaded strut member portion of the expandable stent. The expandable stent is mounted thusly onto the core member for movement within a delivery catheter and deployment to a body vessel defect. The deployment catheter is used to compress the interlocked threaded strut member portion into engagement with the threaded core member portion.

An occlusion device for implantation within a body vessel is provided with a screen member and an associated support member. The occlusion device is radially expandable from a compressed condition, suitable for inserting the device in an introducer, to a deployed or expanded condition within a vessel. The screen member includes a plurality of substantially diamond-shaped openings in the compressed and expanded conditions. The porosity of the screen member is less than the porosity of the support member in the expanded condition.

A stent for implantation within a body vessel is provided with a plurality of varying parallelogrammic cells. The stent is radially expandable from a compressed condition, suitable for inserting the device in an introducer, to a deployed or expanded condition within a body vessel. The stent includes a plurality of parallelogrammic body cells and a plurality of parallelogrammic flare cells. The flare cells have a substantially greater elongation ratio than the body cells. Also provided is a method for manufacturing stents having a plurality of varying parallelogrammic cells.

An expandable stent and delivery system is provided for treating body vessel defects, such as partially occluded blood vessels and aneurysms. The delivery system includes a core member having a non-cylindrical retraction member with extending portions configured to extend between struts of the stent. The stent includes enlarged anchor members that cooperate with the retraction member to secure the stent to the core member for movement within a delivery catheter and deployment to a body vessel defect. The extending portions provide a greater contact area than would be possible with a cylindrical retraction member, which is especially beneficial when retracting a partially deployed stent into the catheter.

An occlusion device for implantation within a body vessel is provided with a screen member and an associated support member. The occlusion device is radially expandable from a compressed condition, suitable for inserting the device in an introducer, to a deployed or expanded condition within a vessel. The screen member includes a plurality of substantially parallelogram-shaped openings in the compressed condition arranged in longitudinal rows, the openings being axially offset from each other. The porosity of the screen member is less than the porosity of the support member in the expanded condition.

Implantable stents having a plurality of varying parallelogrammic cells and methods for manufacturing the same

A medical device for placing an embolic device at a predetermined site within a vessel of the body including a delivery catheter and a flexible pusher member slidably disposed within the lumen of the catheter. An embolic device is retained within the delivery catheter by a mechanical interlocking mechanism which includes an engagement member attached to the distal end of the pusher member and extends through a retaining ring at the proximal end of the embolic device. A detachment member extends through an aperture at the distal end of the engagement member thereby locking the embolic device onto the pusher member. A kicker tongue which is formed as an extension of a portion of the wall of the pusher member extends distally from the distal end of the pusher member and is biased so as to lift the retaining ring off of the engagement member to ensure the release of the embolic device when the detachment member is withdrawn from the aperture of the engagement member.
