A cover feeding device for a book binding machine features a transport device for feeding covers () decollated from a magazine (), a conveyor () that is arranged underneath the plane of motion of the book blocks () a pressing device () that presses the covers against the spine and a printing unit () that prints content () onto the cover (). The transport device comprises a turning device () for transporting the covers () such that the outside () is at least partially directed upward during their infeed, and the printing unit () is arranged above the cover transport.

Cover feeding device for a book binding machine

A book block transport system with a plurality of book block clamps () each having a supporting frame () that is supported in guides and carries an inner clamping jaw () and a pivot frame () that is suspended on a shaft () of the supporting frame () extending parallel thereto for accommodating an outer clamping jaw (). The pivoting movement for opening and closing the outer clamping jaw () is controlled by a cam track, with a spring element () that generates the clamping force between the inner and outer clamping jaws (and). A book stop catch () is carried on the book block clamp () for aligning the book block supplied by an infeed device. In order to reliably and flawlessly transfer and align the book blocks supplied by an infeed device, the book stop catch () is arranged on the book block clamp () such that it can be moved relative to the inner clamping jaw (). Only a small transport gap is required between two successively supplied book blocks such that the book block clamps () are able to transport a larger format height relative to the clamp pitch.

Book block transport system

The invention relates to a book block clamp () for clamping and transporting book blocks () in book block processing machines, comprising an inner clamping jaw () and comprising an outer clamping jaw () which is arranged parallel to, and movable in relation to, said inner clamping jaw (). A support element () is associated with the outer clamping jaw (), which support element () can be moved into a position that is spaced apart in parallel in relation to the outer clamping jaw (), as a result of which the opening width of the book block clamp () is reduced, while the distance between the inner and the outer clamping jaw () remains unchanged. By separately controlling the opening width, reliable and impeccable guidance, in particular of unstable layers and/or folded sections of unbound book blocks (), becomes possible, while the opening- and/or closing movement of the outer clamping jaw () continues to be controlled by way of a fixed greater actuating stroke, and is thus free of any jerking or jolting.

Book block clamp

A cover-feeder for isolating the uppermost cover, in each case, of a flat stack which is continuously advanced, with lateral alignment and as far as a front-edge stop, in an imbricated formation on a transport belt belonging to a feed table, the cover-feeder having a series of separating suction devices belonging to a suction head, which suction head can be pivoted to and fro, for lifting the cover off the stack, and having a drawing-off arrangement for taking over the cover and transferring it to a forwarding conveyor. For the functionally reliable feeding of covers with flaps which are tucked in on one side or with flaps which are tucked in on both sides with enclosed data-carrier disks, the feed table ( ) with the transport belt ( ) is capable of being positioned obliquely via an adjusting arrangement ( ), transversely to the direction of drawing-off of the covers ( ), in such a way that the elevational line of that face of the covers ( ) which is acted upon by the separating suction devices ( ) runs parallel to the elevational line of the said separating suction devices ( ).
