An age-hardening copper alloy made of&#x2014;as expressed in each case in weight %&#x2014;0.4% to a maximum of 2% cobalt which is partially replaceable by nickel, 0.1% through 0.5% beryllium, optionally 0.03% through 0.5% zirconium, 0.005% through 0.1% magnesium and possibly a maximum of 0.15% of at least one element from the group including niobium, manganese, tantalum, vanadium, titanium, chromium, cerium and hafnium. The remainder is copper inclusive of production-conditioned impurities and usual processing additives. This copper alloy is used as the material for producing casting molds, in particular for the sleeves of continuous casting rolls as components of a two-roll casting installation.

Age-hardening copper alloy as material for producing casting molds

A permanent chill mold for the continuous casting of metal, having a mold cavity () which has a pouring slot (), an exit opening () and a casting cone (). At least one concave bulging () is provided that extends in the casting direction (G), which begins at a distance (A) below a predetermined casting bath level position () and extends up to the exit opening ().

Permanent chill mold for the continuous casting of metals

A copper casting mold for the continuous casting of steel melts is provided, in the presence of zinc and or sulfur in the thermally most greatly stressed contact region with the steel melt, with an at least single-layer diffusion barrier layer made of at least one metallic/metalloid material.

Copper casting mold

A liquid-cooled casting die for the continuous casting of thin steel slabs has a molding casting die body made of a material of high heat conductivity, such as copper or a copper alloy. Preferably the casting die body is made, in each case, of two broad-side walls, situated facing each other, and narrow-side walls limiting the width of the billet, the broadside walls forming a funnel-shaped pouring-in area. In order avoid the formation of cracks in the thermally and mechanically more stressed areas of the copper plate, cooling zones are arranged particularly in the bath surface area having higher surface-related heat flow.

Liquid-cooled casting die

A liquid-cooled mold for a continuous casting of metals, including mold plates made of copper or a copper alloy, which are connected respectively to an adapter plate or a cooling-water tank by clamping bolts. The mold is characterized in that the clamping bolts are fastened to plateau pedestals which project in an island-like manner from the cooling arrangement side of the mold plate, which jut at least partially into a cooling arrangement gap formed between the mold plate and the adapter plate or the cooling-water tank, respectively, and have a streamlined shape adjusted to the flow direction of the cooling arrangement.

Liquid-cooled mold

A method and device for the controlled tempering of a casting trough integrated between a supply vessel for a molten metal (e.g., copper or a copper alloy), and at least one continuous casting mold. The trough walls and the trough floor of the casting trough are at least partially provided with a lining layer having a specific electrical resistance between 10 &OHgr;&middot;m to 10 &OHgr;&middot;m and being resistant to the heat of the molten metal. The lining layer is inductively heated by an electrical heating device arranged around the lining layer.

Method for the controlled tempering of a casting trough and a casting trough for carrying out the method

An arrangement for pouring a pourable melt made up of a copper alloy, which comprises a melting furnace, pivotable about a horizontal pivot axis, having a pouring tube which discharges pourable melt and through which the pourable melt can be conveyed under a shielding gas atmosphere to a filling end of a launder and can be conveyed through an outlet of the launder to a mold. The filling end of the launder is coverable by a hood that seals off the pourable melt from the atmosphere, the pouring tube engaging, with interposition of a seal arrangement, in pivotably movable fashion into the hood. As a result, the pourable melt can be transferred into the launder under a shielding gas atmosphere upon pivoting of the melting furnace and the pouring tub.

A method for manufacturing casting molds, in particular continuous casting molds which are used with an electromagnetic rabbling mechanism in the continuous casting of steel, is provided. The method comprises selecting a specified age-hardenable copper alloy to have a Ni content from 0.1 to 2.0% which allows the electrical conductivity of the copper alloy to be adjusted from 80 to 35 IACS. The method further comprises melting, casting, hot-rolling, solution heat treating and rapidly cooling the copper alloy, followed by age-hardening, wherein the mold has a tensile strength of at least 430 N/mm , is highly thermally conductive and exhibits low magnetic field damping. A method of using an age-hardenable copper alloy is also provided.

Age-hardenable copper alloy casting molds

A casting-die body ( ) made of a hardenable copper alloy is provided with an inner wear-protective layer ( ) of chromium whose hardness decreases from the billet-side surface ( ) in the direction of the casting-die body ( ). The wear-protective layer ( ) is made up of two chromium layers ( ). For this purpose, the casting-die body ( ) is given a solution heat treatment, is chromium plated, and is then hardened, as a result of which the initially very great hardness of the chromium layer ( ) is reduced. The hardness of the chromium layer ( ) then is about 650 HV. Subsequently, to increase the wear protection, the second chromium layer ( ) is applied. The result is a conventional chromium-plated layer having a hardness of between 850 HV and 1050 HV.

Casting-die body

The result is a conventional chromium-plated layer having a hardness of between 850 HV and 1050 HV.

Method for manufacturing a casting-die body and a casting-die body

The invention concerns a mold for a continuous casting system with a shaping mold tube made of a material with high thermal conductivity. To reduce the rate of heat removal at the height of the meniscus that forms within the mold cavity, the exterior of the mold tube is provided with a plating of a material of lower thermal conductivity than that of the mold tube. This results in reduced heat flow with higher temperatures in the meniscus area and in improvement in the surface quality of the cast billet.

Molds for a continuous casting system

An ingot mold for the continuous casting of metals. The mold has a mold cavity that is open at opposing ends. The cross-sectional area at the casting pour-in-side is larger than the cross-sectional area of the end from which the billet emerges. To achieve higher casting performance and attain better billet quality via more uniform temperature distribution over the casting cross-section, the mold cavity has multiple conical depressions on an outer cooling surface. These depressions, which are arrayed over at least one area, constitute a region defining elevated heat transfer coefficients. The cooling-side surface in the bath level area of the ingot mold has a roughened structure over part of its surface, the roughened structure tapering in the casting direction.

Ingot mold for the continuous casting of metals

A passthrough method is provided in which the surface of an industrial grade, low-grease precursor made of copper, with a defined surface roughness, is patinated. For this purpose the precursor material, connected as the anode, is passed through an electrolysis bath, containing sodium carbonate and/or sodium hydrogencarbonate as well as sodium sulfite and/or sodium disulfite, with a temperature of 30.degree. C. to 90.degree. C. and a current density of 1 A/dm.sup.2 to 20 A/dm.sup.2 as bath parameters, for a residence time of 10 seconds to 12 minutes. The precursor material is rinsed and then moved through a fixing bath at a temperature of 35.degree. C. to 95.degree. C. for a residence time of 10 seconds to 120 seconds, and lastly, after a further rinsing, is dried. The fixing bath contains at least one of the oxidation agents: hydrogen peroxide (H.sub.2 O.sub.2), potassium chlorate (KClO.sub.3), potassium peroxodisulfate (K.sub.2 S.sub.2 O.sub.8), potassium permanganate (KMnO.sub.4), of copper sulfate (CuSO.sub.4.5H.sub.2 O).
