The use of a complex ester obtainable by esterification reaction between aliphatic linear or branched C- to C-dicarboxylic acids, aliphatic linear or branched polyhydroxy alcohols with 3 to 6 hydroxyl groups, and, as chain stopping agents, aliphatic linear or branched C- to C-monocarboxylic acids or aliphatic linear or branched monobasic C- to C-alcohols, as an additive in a fuel for minimization of power loss in the operation of an internal combustion engine with this fuel.

Use of a complex ester to reduce fuel consumption

The use of a complex ester obtainable by esterification reaction between aliphatic linear or branched C- to C-dicarboxylic acids, aliphatic linear or branched polyhydroxy alcohols with 3 to 6 hydroxyl groups, and, as chain stopping agents, aliphatic linear or branched C- to C-monocarboxylic acids or aliphatic linear or branched monobasic Ci- to C-alcohols, as an additive in a fuel.

Suggested is a method for enhancing energy efficiency of engines by applying to said engines a lubricant composition containing (A) carboxylic esters derived from the reaction of mono-, di- and/or poly alcohols with mono- and/or dicarboxylic acids, together with an additive blend (B) comprising at least two different additives (a) and (b) together, whereby compound (a) is selected from dithiophosphates, and compound (b) is selected from alkylated phosphorothionates, on condition that the total amount of the additive blend (B) is below 0.1 wt %, calculated on the weight of the whole composition.

Lubricant compositions

A process for improving the oxidation stability of lubricants including providing one or more esters containing branched alkyl groups which are reaction products of branched alcohols with a) one or more aliphatic dicarboxylic acids corresponding to general formula (II): HOOC&#x2014;R&#x2014;COOH in which Ris a branched or unbranched, saturated alkyl group containing 0 to 34 carbon atoms, or b) one or more saturated branched monocarboxylic acids corresponding to general formula (III): R&#x2014;COOH in which Ris a branched alkyl group of 3 to 39 carbon atoms, or c) one or more saturated monocarboxylic acids corresponding to general formula (III) in which Ris a linear alkyl group of 3 to 29 carbon atoms, or d) a mixture thereof, as lubricants, with the proviso that the esters have an oxidation stability of 1000 hours or more, as determined by the Turbine Oil Stability Test (TOST test) to DIN EN ISO 4263-3.
