A method for calibrating a nuclear gauge of the having a source includes providing a nuclear gauge comprising a radiation source, the radiation source being coupled with a computing system with a machine readable program stored thereon containing a calibration routine. An operator places the gauge on one or more specified blocks to adjust the source within each block to one or more specified positions to initiate a count. The method includes determining that the source is at each position before each count begins, adjusting the counting times before each count begins by the program on the nuclear gauge based on each position of the source to obtain calibration information, obtaining counts at each position, storing the counts within the computing system of the nuclear gauge, and calculating for each position calibration coefficients.

Nuclear gauges and methods of configuration and calibration of nuclear gauges

The present invention comprises a method and apparatus for controlling gas flow via a gas shut-off valve assembly. In at least one embodiment, the assembly is configured to drive its shut-off valve from an open position to a closed position, in response to detecting a valve closure condition. The assembly in one or more embodiments operates as an intelligent node in an AMR network, and it interprets a received closure command as a closure condition. Additionally, or alternatively, the assembly detects abnormal operating conditions as the closure condition. Advantageously, the assembly performs initial closure verification, based on detecting movement of the valve into the closed position, and performs subsequent closure verification, based on monitoring downstream gas pressure. In the same or other embodiments, the assembly provides enhanced stand-alone reliability and safety by incorporating one or more valve clearing/cleaning routines into its operations.

Nuclear gauges and method of configuration and methods of calibrations of the nuclear gauges are provided. The nuclear gauges are used in measuring the density and/or moisture of construction-related materials. The nuclear gauge can include a gauge housing having a vertical cavity therethrough and at least one radiation detector located within the housing. The nuclear gauge can include a vertically moveable source rod and a radiation source operatively positioned within a distal end of the source rod.

Nuclear gauges, their components and method for assembly and adjustment of the same are provided. The nuclear gauges are used in measuring the density and/or moisture of construction-related materials. The nuclear gauge can include a gauge housing having a vertical cavity therethrough and at least one radiation detector located within the housing. Nuclear gauges and related methods of assembly

A method for calibrating a gyratory compactor apparatus is provided. The gyratory compactor apparatus is of the type being configured to compact and impart an orbital motion to a sample in a mold that defines a mold axis and includes at least one actuator for imparting lateral displacement of the mold relative to a longitudinal axis of the gyratory compactor apparatus. The method includes the steps of imparting lateral orbital displacement of the mold relative to the gyratory compactor apparatus by actuation of the at least one actuator to thereby define a gyratory angle between the gyratory compactor apparatus and the mold axis, measuring the gyratory angle, and determining adjustments to actuation of the at least one actuator based on the measured gyratory angle and a target angle. An associated apparatus and method for calibrating the apparatus are also included.

Calibration of gyratory compactor apparatuses and associated methods

A gyratory compactor apparatus is provided for interacting with a sample within a generally cylindrical mold having a flange. Such an apparatus comprises a frame defining an axis and an offsetable member engaged with the frame for engaging one end of the mold. The offsetable member is displaceable from the axis and is concurrently movable in an orbital motion thereabout. A pressure ram is movable along the axis and a mold-engaging device is engaged with the frame for receiving the mold such that the mold and frame axes are coaxial. The pressure ram is axially movable within the mold to apply a compaction pressure on the sample, and thereby maintains a portion of the mold at a gyration point along the frame axis. The mold-engaging device axially moves the mold into engagement with the offsetable member. A securing device engaged with the offsetable member and movable therewith reversibly engages the mold to secure the mold to the offsetable member as the secured end is moved in the orbital motion by the offsetable member. The mold is thereby gyrated and dynamically maintained at a gyration angle. Associated apparatuses, devices, and methods are also provided.
