The invention is directed to a method and a device for determining the blood pressure, in which a pressure sensor is applied to an individual's limb to detect the blood pressure prevailing in said limb. According to the present invention, the orientation of the limb is detected by means of an orientation sensing unit, and the detected blood pressure is corrected in an evaluating unit in response to the limb's detected orientation.

The invention relates to a blood pressure manometer comprising a housing, a cuff connected to the housing, a cuff storage element in which a section of the cuff can be retracted to adjust the width of the cuff, and a cuff tightener which pulls the cuff section into the cuff storage element with a pre-determined tractive force. The cuff tightener comprises a pre-tensioned spring drive and a detachable withdrawal blocking element which prevents the cuff from withdrawing counter to the spring drive. The spring drive causes the cuff to automatically tighten with a pre-determined force, ensuring reproducible measuring results. The cuff storage element and the cuff tightener can be integrated into or engaged in a locking manner with the housing. An automatic switch-on mechanism switches the appliance on as soon as the cuff storage element is locked to the housing when the cuff is positioned on the limb.

The invention is directed to a blood pressure monitoring device comprising a central parts mounting module and to a method of manufacturing this parts mounting module. According to the invention fluid channels are produced by gas injection into the interior of the parts mounting module, the walls bounding the fluid channels being completely formed by the material of the parts mounting module. The injection of gas continues for as long as a core of the parts mounting module is still in the liquid phase in the area of the fluid channel, whilst an outer area surrounding the core has already solidified, so that the pressure fluid expels the liquid core area, producing a tubular fluid channel.

The invention is directed to a wrist blood pressure monitoring device comprising a pressure sensor for detecting a pressure signal, an applicator unit for applying the pressure sensor against the wrist area of a subject's lower arm, an evaluating unit for evaluating the pressure signal, and an inclination detecting device for detecting the inclination of the blood pressure monitoring device and for delivering an electrical inclination signal corresponding to the inclination. According to the invention, the inclination detecting device comprises at least one movable, in particular pendulum-type positioning element and an inclination sensing device cooperating with the positioning element and including at least one sensing element movable with the positioning element and formed in particular by an optically reflecting, wedge-shaped arc section of the positioning element, and at least one further sensing element having in particular a reflected light barrier. The sensing elements are configured such that the electrical inclination signal is derivable from the relative position of the relatively movable sensing elements.
