A receiver table () is provided for holding a receiver in a digital printer using a shuttle () carrying the printheads (), e.g. an ink-jet printer, which is divided in small table segments () of which height and orientation can be adjusted. By adjusting the segments () the table () can be deformed to obtain a constant receiver-printhead distance even if the guidance of the shuttle () has deviations or exhibits bending during shuttling. Table segments () are preferably mounted on a deformable table support (). The receiver-printhead 'throw distance' can be calibrated by measuring the distance profile and adjusting adjustments screws or bolts to align the table segments () to the ideal printing distance.

A step-wise medium transport system is provided having high accuracy for transporting recording media in a digital printer, the medium is transported using accurately moving tables to which the medium is attached during printing steps the working area of the medium, on which the printing is done by the printer, is at all times fully supported by a static table avoiding disturbances.

An ink-jet printer includes pagewidth printheads mounted in a frame, wherein the printheads are coupled to mechanical devices for aligning the printheads with respect to each other, with respect to an edge of the image receiving substrate, or with respect to both. The printer may include devices for sensing the possible misalignment, coupled to a computer for automatically aligning the printheads.

An apparatus for the wet processing of photographic sheet material comprises at least one treatment vessel (12, 12', 12') having upper and lower openings (17, 18), one of the openings constituting a sheet material inlet and the other of the openings constituting a sheet material outlet, the inlet and outlet defining there-between a substantially vertical sheet material path (20) through the vessel. The vessel comprises a pair of rotatable rollers (28, 30) biased towards each other to define a nip (36) there-between through which the sheet material path extends. The apparatus is characterised in that the end faces of one roller lie in substantially the same plane as the end faces of the other roller and each roller is in sealing contact with a stationary sealing means (38) having a continuous contact line (52) which extends along the length of each roller (28, 30) and over the end faces of each roller, at least on the fluid side of said nip (36).

Apparatus for the wet processing of photographic sheet material

Silver is recovered from solutions containing the same, e.g. photographic processing solutions, in an electrolytic cell including an anode, a removable cathode and electrical connectors therefore on the exterior of the cell. The removable cathode is circular in configuration and encircles the anode. On the interior of the cell, electrical contact is made around the upper end of the cathode by means of an annular contact surface providing a large area of contact and minimizing the risk of occurrence of a corrosive connection. The upper end of the cathode is shaped for deformation, preferably in the form of castellations, and is clampingly pressed against the contact surface by a frusto-conical extension of the lid of the cell. The lid fits in threadwise engagement within the opening to the cell through which the cathode can be removed. As the lid is threaded into the cell opening, the frusto-conical extension thereof bears against the deformable cathode end portion and clamps the same against the contact surface. In this arrangement, the contact surface is situated above the level of the electrolyte in the cell so as to be protected against corrosion by the electrolyte.

An electrode for use in an electrolytic cell is disclosed, comprising a generally flat sheet (50) of flexible material having at least one electrically conductive surface. Upper and lower securing means are provided each comprising a tongue (55a,b) formed on one side edge (53) of the sheet (50) and a slot (56a,b) associated with an opposite side edge (54) of the sheet (50). The tongues and slots co-operate to enable the sheet (50) to be folded into and secured in an open frusto-conical configuration. This arrangement gives ease of removal from an electrolytic cell after use and advantages of requiring less storage and transport space in a flat configuration.

An ion-exchange resin holder (18) to recover silver from photographic rinsing water with a perforate inlet (37) and outlet (29) resin restrainer between which a mass (38) of ion-exchange resin is restrained in the holder and a liquid restrainer (32) near the inlet for deflecting part of the incoming water towards the bottom end, and for allowing another part of said incoming water to pass undeflectedly towards the outlet opening.

Silver is recovered from the rinse water from a photographic film processing unit by means of a silver recovery device in which the rinse water is passed through at least one bed of ion exchange resin particles maintained in fluidized condition by the water flow. A plurality of such beds are preferably connected in series with rinse water being recirculated until fresh rinse water causes overflow to the next bed and finally to a collection vessel. Fluidization is interrupted periodically to create quiescent periods which aid in removal from the resin particles of accumulated gelatin from the processed film.
