This invention relates to medical, health care and non-medical devices comprising a rubbery or elastomeric polymer material taking up more than 5% by weight of water and at most 500% by weight of water after immersion in demineralized water at room temperature for a sufficient time to reach saturation. The material may be in the form of a foam, or in the form of a coating adapted for adhesion to a substrate, or in the form of a sheet, or in the form of a fiber, and may comprise: &#x2014;repeating units from one or more hydrophobic organic monomers, and &#x2014;repeating units from one or more monomers (a) being modified with one or more hydrophilic side groups.

Described are drug carriers useful in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-guided drug release comprising a shell capable of releasing an enclosed biologically active agent as a result of a local stimulus, e.g. energy input, such as heat, wherein the shell encloses aF MR contrast agent. Preferably, the carrier also acts as a contrast enhancement agent for MRI based on the principle of Chemical Exchange-dependent Saturation Transfer (CEST). To this end the shell encloses a cavity that comprises a paramagnetic chemical shift reagent, a pool of proton analytes, and theF contrast agent, and wherein the shell allows diffusion of the proton analytes.

Water-absorbing elastomeric material

An elastomeric stamp has a bulk surface from which protruding features extend. A barrier layer covers the bulk surface and the protruding features. After applying an ink solution to the elastomeric stamp and drying the elastomeric stamp, the elastomeric stamp is brought into contact with a surface of a first substrate. The surface of the first substrate has a high affinity with the ink molecules, which is utilized to effectively remove the ink molecules from the contact surfaces of the protruding features. Subsequently, the elastomeric stamp is brought into contact with the surface of a second substrate. Ink molecules are transferred from the edges of the protruding features to the surface of a second substrate, thus forming an ink pattern in the form of a self assembled monolayer on this surface.

Method for patterning a substrate surface

The present invention relates to a method for amplifying the detected signal in a gas sensor. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method for increasing the concentration of the gas which is being detected in a sample or increasing the concentration of a gas which is directly obtained from the gas in the sample by chemical reaction. The gas which is to be detected is nitric oxide (NO). In particular, the method concerns the selective conversion of NO to NO2 which allows a threefold amplification of the number of analyte molecules in NO trace gas analysis in a single amplification cycle. Subsequent reduction or thermal decomposition of the obtained NO2 can provide NO again, which can again be introduced in a new amplification cycle. Multiple (n) amplification cycles can provide a sensitivity amplification by a factor 3. The method can be combined with a multitude of detection methods and tolerates a high humidity. The method is therefore of general use in the analysis of NO from a variety of sources.
