Obtaining from a network media related to an incoming call based on records of a data relay device

A customer premises equipment (CPE) device, such as a telephone, connected to a local communications line existing on the premises is capable of receiving incoming telephone or like communication calls. The device has an interface which connects the device to the local communications line on the premises and enables the device to receive an alternating voltage analog ring signal corresponding to a notification of an incoming telephone call. The device also includes a demodulator for decoding and processing the ring signal including additional media data which is of low amplitude relative to that of the alternating voltage analog ring signal and which is modulated on the alternating voltage analog ring signal. Further, the device includes an input/output (I/O) component providing a means for audible and/or visual output of media from the device. The media output from the device directly corresponds to the media data modulated on the ring signal. CPE telephone systems and methods are also provided.

Customer premises equipment telephone device providing advanced media features

In general, in one aspect, the disclosure describes a digital network to telephone interface device having a controller capable of detecting foreign voltage faults without interrupting telephone service. Upon detection of a foreign voltage fault the controller can deactivate the telephone service and initiate a test sequence to confirm the foreign voltage fault. If the fault is confirmed the telephone service remains deactivated and an operator of the digital network is notified. The device will improve the quality of service and save the cost of sending some one to investigate the fault. The operator can take proactive action once the device provides fault analysis and information remotely.

Detecting foreign voltage faults in telephone customer premise equipment

A first clock signal is generated by a first circuit and a second clock signal is generated by an auxiliary clock circuit. A switch controls whether the first clock signal or the second clock signal is provided to a subscriber line integrated circuit (SLIC). The SLIC is operable to generate a line voltage within predetermined tolerances on a loop line at a customer premises if the SLIC is receiving the first clock signal or the second clock signal. A resync signal is sent to the SLIC to cause it to resync with the first clock signal without going through a reset operation.

Method and apparatus for providing a soft clock re-sync for subscriber line interface cards

A receiver is tuned to a transmission frequency of a data signal after the receiver has already locked onto a frequency carrying the data signal. A frequency offset between a locked frequency of a tuner on the receiver and the actual transmission frequency is determined by a comparator. If the frequency offset is greater than a threshold value, then the tuner is stepped to another frequency and the frequency offset is determined again. The direction of the tuning step can be determined by comparing multiple frequency offsets. An average value of multiple frequency offset measurements may also be used to determine if the tuner should retune to another frequency by comparison with the threshold value.

Adaptive tuning to improve demodulator performance

A device selects a mode and communicates data based on the selected mode. The device comprises at least one interface circuit configured to monitor analog audio signals from a customer premise equipment device and a processor circuit. The processor circuit assigns a first band mode for converting the analog audio signals to data packets if the analog audio signals do not have frequency components outside the first band of frequencies and assigns a second band mode for the conversion otherwise. The assignment of the second band mode for the conversion enables the output circuit to use a larger bandwidth of the communication channel to a network.

Selecting an adaptor mode and communicating data based on the selected adaptor mode

A cordless telephone system includes a base station operable to connect to an internet protocol (IP) network and at least one handset running a short messaging service (SMS) application. The at least one handset is operable to transmit and receive both voice data and SMS data to and from the base station. The voice data is transmitted from the base station via a multimedia terminal adapter (MTA) to the IP network and the SMS data is transmitted from the base station via a modem to the IP network.
