A side curtain airbag for a vehicle includes an inner panel facing an interior of the vehicle, an outer panel facing the inner panel, a stopper chamber configured to prevent a head of an occupant seated on the vehicle from being moved toward a front side of the vehicle, a forward chamber arranged at a front side of the stopper chamber, and a rearward chamber arranged at a rear side of the stopper chamber. The forward chamber and the rearward chamber are arranged to be adjacent to each other such that in a non-inflation state of the airbag, a portion in which the stopper chamber is located is folded at least one time to form an overlapped portion.

Side curtain airbag for vehicle

An inflatable airbag system can be configured to be mounted to a frontal region of a vehicle. The inflatable airbag system includes an airbag base cushion and one or more pluralities of cushion portions. In response to a collision event, the base cushion and pluralities of cushion portions may transition from a compact state to a deployed and expanded state. The airbag may receive the head of a vehicle occupant. One or more inner cushion portions may deflate as they receive the head of the vehicle occupant. An outer plurality of cushion portions may be configured to maintain a fully expanded state as they receive the head of the vehicle occupant.

Frontal airbag systems for oblique crash protection

An inflatable airbag system can be configured to be mounted to a frontal region of a vehicle. The inflatable airbag system includes an airbag and a positioning member, and is configured to deploy in various configurations in response to frontal and oblique collision events and based on an impact angle and a rotational angle of the steering wheel.

An inflatable airbag system provides cushioning restraint of a vehicle occupant during an impact event of a vehicle. The airbag system can be configured to be mounted to a frontal region of a vehicle. The airbag system includes an inflatable airbag and a selectively actuatable vent that can be actuated in response to detection of an oblique impact event and/or a small overlap collision event. The selectively actuatable vent is actuated to open to provide additional venting and thus a lower pressure within the inflatable airbag. A lower pressure can reduce force and momentum on the vehicle occupant's head at an offset angled contact with the airbag. A lower pressure may also prevent the occupant from deflecting or rolling off of an airbag and colliding with other surfaces within the vehicle.

A curtain airbag for a vehicle has a main chamber shaped in the position being mounted on the vehicle, in the inflated state covering an inner side structure of the vehicle. The curtain airbag has an additional chamber which, in the mounting position, is located at the in driving direction of the vehicle front portion of the main chamber, and deploys in the direction of the interior of the vehicle when the curtain airbag is inflated. The additional chamber is attached to the main chamber so as to be positioned in the inflated state between the front portion of the main chamber and an occupant to be restrained by the curtain airbag.

Curtain airbag for a vehicle and a restraining arrangement

An inflatable airbag system can be configured to be mounted to a frontal region of a vehicle. The inflatable airbag system includes an airbag and an active control mechanism, and is configured to deploy in various configurations in response to frontal and oblique collision events. An active portion of the inflatable airbag deploys to an expanded configuration when a collision event is an oblique collision event and deploys to a less expanded configuration when the collision event is a frontal collision event. The active control mechanism can include one or more tethers or an inflatable member.

A curtain airbag for a vehicle includes a main chamber shaped in such a way that, in the position being mounted on the vehicle, in the inflated state the main chamber covers an inner side structure of the vehicle. The curtain airbag further includes an additional chamber which, in the mounting position, is located on the in driving direction of the vehicle front portion of the main chamber, and deploys in the direction of the interior of the vehicle when the curtain airbag is inflated. An extended section connects the additional chamber and the main chamber at a rim section at the same side and limits movement of the additional chamber during the inflation process.

The apparatus has a sled carriage and a test buck. The sled carriage is mounted for linear movement along a test axis, and the test buck includes a first structure mounted to the carriage for guided movement relative to the carriage. The test buck further includes a second structure mounted to the carriage, and the first structure is configured to move relative to the second structure during the guided movement.

A safety arrangement in a motor vehicle comprises a safety device ( ) adapted to protect an occupant of the vehicle in the case of a roll-over accident, and a roll sensor arrangement to provide a signal ( ) to trigger activation of the safety device. A sensor ( ) senses an angular parameter such as angular speed about the longitudinal axis of the vehicle, or the actual angle of roll about the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. A further sensor ( ) senses a velocity parameter relating to the vehicle speed, such as the total velocity of the vehicle, or the velocity of the vehicle in a predetermined direction. A processor ( ) senses an angular speed in excess of a predetermined threshold, which activates a timing mechanism ( ) which is associated with a processor ( ) which compares angular velocity with a threshold, and provides a triggering signal if the threshold is exceeded. The threshold is a function of vehicle speed. The angular velocity is also compared with a further threshold in another processor ( ), the threshold in this processor being a function of angle of roll. If this processor generates an output signal, the safety device ( ) is activated.

Safety arrangement in a vehicle

A vehicle impact sensor arrangement is provided for sensing a side impact. The arrangement comprises at least one sensor which is directly or indirectly fixed to the monocoque shell of a motor vehicle and which is responsive to inward movement of part of a door mounted on a motor vehicle. The part of the door adjacent the sensor is reinforced.
