An internal combustion engine is provided. The internal combustion engine includes a control device, and at least one injector for liquid fuel. The injector(s) can be controlled by the control device via an actuator control signal. The injector(s) include an injector outlet opening for the liquid fuel which can be closed by a needle. A sensor is also provided for measuring a measurement variable of the injector(s). The sensor is or can be in a signal connection with the control device. An algorithm is stored in the control device, which algorithm calculates a state of the injector(s) based on input variables and an injector model, compares the state calculated via the injector model with a target state, and produces a state signal in accordance therewith. The state signal is characteristic of a change in the state of the injector(s) that occurs during intended use of the injector(s) and/or an unforeseen change in the state of the injector(s). The input variables include at least the actuator control signal and the measurement values of the sensor. A method for operating such an internal combustion engine and an injector is also provided.

Dual-fuel internal combustion engine with at least two combustion chambers which have a different distance from at least one gas mixer for producing a gas-air mixture, whereby an inlet valve for the gas-air mixture and an injector for liquid fuel is assigned to each of the combustion chambers, and a control device is provided which is configured in a change-over mode to change an amount of energy supplied to the at least two combustion chambers through the gas-air mixture in a first direction, and to change an amount of liquid fuel supplied to the at least two combustion chambers in an opposite, second direction, whereby the control device is designed to determine a time for the change of the amount of liquid fuel in the second direction for each of the at least two combustion chambers according to the distance of the respective combustion chamber from the at least one gas mixer.

Dual-fuel internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine is provided. The internal combustion engine includes a control device, and at least one injector for liquid fuel that includes a discharge opening for the liquid fuel. The at least one injector is connected to a collection volume by means of a line for liquid fuel. Liquid fuel can flow through the line for liquid fuel from the at least one injector to the collection volume. A control element that can be adjusted by the control device via a control signal is also provided. Via the control element, a back pressure in the line for liquid fuel can be adjusted in order to adjust an amount of liquid fuel discharged through the discharge opening of the at least one injector. Also provided is a method for operating an internal combustion engine and an injector.

A dual-fuel internal combustion engine including a regulating device for regulating the internal combustion engine, at least one piston-cylinder unit, at least one fuel injector for a gaseous fuel, which is assigned to this piston-cylinder unit, at least one gas supply device for gaseous fuel, which is assigned to this piston-cylinder unit, whereby the regulating device has a pilot operating mode in which the liquid fuel is introduced as a pilot fuel, whereby the regulating device in pilot operating mode has a transient mode in which, in an expansion phase of the piston-cylinder unit, the piston-cylinder unit is supplied with liquid fuel by the fuel injector.

A dual-fuel internal combustion engine with a device for regulating the internal combustion engine, with at least two piston-cylinders, a fuel injector assigned to the piston-cylinder units for a liquid fuel, which has an injector needle. Each piston-cylinder unit has a gas supply device for fuel, wherein the regulating device controls the fuel injector and the at least one gas supply device individually for metering of the quantity of the liquid or gaseous fuel supplied to each piston-cylinder unit. At least one needle sensor is connected to the regulating device and assigned to the respective piston-cylinder unit, which detects a characteristic signal of the needle position in the ballistic range, so that the fuel injector can be operated with individual controllability for each of the at least two piston-cylinder units for the regulation of the supplied fuel quantity in the ballistic range.

System for controlling an injection of fuel in an engine is disclosed. The engine includes a cylinder and a first fuel injector to inject a first fuel in the cylinder. The system includes a sensor disposed on or proximate to the first fuel injector and configured to generate an electrical signal indicative of at least one of a start of the injection and an end of the injection of the first fuel. The system further includes a controller configured to adjust at least one of a mass and the start of injection of the first fuel to be injected by the first fuel injector based on the electrical signal. A dual-fuel engine employing the system for controlling an injection of fuel in an engine is also disclosed. Moreover, method and non-transitory computer readable media for controlling an injection of the fuel are also disclosed.

In a method of controlling a dual fuel engine in which power in the form of a first gaseous fuel and in the form of a self-igniting second fuel is fed to at least one combustion chamber, a knock signal representative of the combustion chamber is detected. When a knock signal indicating a knock of at least a first intensity is detected, the amount of first fuel fed to the combustion chamber of the engine is increased, the increased introduction of power into the combustion chamber caused by the increase in the amount of first fuel being compensated by a corresponding reduction in the power contribution of the second fuel. When a knock signal indicating a knock of at least a second intensity greater than the first intensity is detected, the amount of first fuel is reduced.
