The present disclosure relates to the field of tissue mapping and ablation. Specifically, the present disclosure relates to expandable medical devices for identifying and treating local anatomical abnormalities within a body lumen. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to systems and methods of focal treatment for overactive bladders.

Steerable tissue mapping and ablation device

A system for treating a gastrointestinal tract may include a device configured to measure electrical activity at a plurality of locations within a gastrointestinal tract of a patient, a controller configured to compare the measured activity from the plurality of locations to a database of electrical activity corresponding to one or more gastric events, abnormalities, or dysrhythmias. The controller may be configured to determine one or more treatment locations based on the comparison, and cause the device to deliver therapy to the one or more treatment locations.

Systems and methods for obesity diagnosis and/or treatment

In one aspect, the present disclosure is directed to a method for identifying a site with a patient for treatment. The method may include engaging a plurality electrodes with an interior wall of the patient at a plurality of locations. The method may also generating a virtual map of a plurality of electrodes, wherein each of the plurality of electrodes is displayed with a first indicia. The method may also include displaying each of the plurality of electrodes engaged with the interior wall with a second indicia, measuring electrical activity, identifying at least one site for treatment based on the measured resulting electrical activity, and displaying each of the plurality of electrodes identified for treatment with a third indicia.

Medical device and related methods

Systems and methods for the treatment of bladder conditions using direct electrical pacing are provided. The systems and methods generally apply high-frequency pacing stimuli directly to the bladder wall, from one or more of the inner and outer bladder surfaces.

Control of bladder function using high frequency pacing

A system and method for guiding a catheter or other medical device to a desired target destination within the vasculature of a patient via bioimpedance measurements is disclosed. The target destination in one embodiment includes placement of the catheter such that a distal tip thereof is disposed proximate the heart, e.g., the junction of the right atrium and superior vena cava. In one embodiment the method for guiding the catheter comprises introducing the catheter into a vessel of the patient, the catheter defining a lumen through which fluids can be infused into the vasculature of the patient. The catheter is advanced toward a target destination within the vasculature. A first impedance value based on intravascular detection of at least one electrical property related to a first tissue surface of the vessel is calculated to enable determination of the proximity of a distal end of the catheter to the target destination.

Bioimpedance-assisted placement of a medical device

Lesion size or volume prediction shortly after the onset of an ablation procedure can inform or control the ablation procedure. The prediction and/or control is made without regard to an actual detected temperature in the vicinity of the ablation electrodes. As a consequence, the system has utility with irrigated catheter constructions and other situations in which local irrigation in the vicinity of an ablation site would otherwise interfere with a prediction or control scheme that solely relies upon temperature measurements.

System and method for predicting lesion size shortly after onset of RF energy delivery

Embodiments described herein relate to methods of using a catheter having a braided conductive member. One embodiment relates to a method for treating a condition of a patient that involves contacting an exterior wall of a blood vessel with the braided conductive member. Another embodiment relates to a method that involves contacting a wall of a blood vessel with the braided conductive member and controlling energy delivery to the braided conductive member based on at least one sensed temperature.

Methods of using a catheter having a braided conductive member

An apparatus for mapping and/or ablating tissue includes a braided conductive member that may be inverted to provide a ring-shaped surface. When a distal tip of the braided conductive member is retracted within the braided conductive member, the lack of a protrusion allows the ring-shaped surface to contact a tissue wall such as a cardiac wall. In an alternative configuration, the braided conductive member may be configured with the distal portion forming a proboscis that can be used to stably position the braided conductive member relative to a blood vessel, such as a ventricular outflow tract. The braided conductive member has a plurality of electronically active sites that may be accessed individually for stable mapping over a broad area for stable mapping or ablation to form broad and deep lesions.

Mapping and ablation method for the treatment of ventricular tachycardia

An electrophysiology catheter and method of use for mapping and ablation procedures. The catheter includes a braided conductive member at its distal end that can be radially expanded. The catheter can be used in endocardial and epicardial mapping and ablation procedures.

Apparatus and methods for mapping and ablation in electrophysiology procedures

Method and apparatus for treating conductive irregularities in the heart, particularly atrial fibrillation and accessory path arrythmias. An ablative catheter is positioned relative to an inter-atrial electrical pathway, or a vicinity of accessory paths such as the coronary sinus or fossa ovalis, and actuated to form a lesion that partially or completely blocks electrical conduction in at least one direction along the pathway.

Method and apparatus for altering conduction properties in the heart and in adjacent vessels

The patterns of contraction and relaxation of the heart before and during left ventricular or biventricular pacing are analyzed and displayed in real time mode to assist physicians to screen patients for cardiac resynchronization therapy, to set the optimal A-V or right ventricle to left ventricle interval delay, and to select the site(s) of pacing that result in optimal cardiac performance. The system includes an accelerometer sensor; a programmable pace maker, a computer data analysis module, and may also include a 2D and 3D visual graphic display of analytic results, i.e. a Ventricular Contraction Map. A feedback network provides direction for optimal pacing leads placement. The method includes selecting a location to place the leads of a cardiac pacing device, collecting seismocardiographic (SCG) data corresponding to heart motion during paced beats of a patient's heart, determining hemodynamic and electrophysiological parameters based on the SCG data, repeating the preceding steps for another lead placement location, and selecting a lead placement location that provides the best cardiac performance by comparing the calculated hemodynamic and electrophysiological parameters for each different lead placement location.

Optimization method for cardiac resynchronization therapy

A self-cooling electrode for use with an ablation catheter has greater surface area that allows electrode to dissipate heat to the blood pool more effectively and increased thermal mass, and, therefor greater heating capacity/thermal conductivity for improved heat transfer between the electrode and tissue for more effective tissue heating. The electrode design allows increased power to be delivered with minimized risk of overheating or coagulation at the tissue-electrode interface. The increased thermal mass and thermal conductivity of the electrode design are achieved with a substantially solid electrode body with thick walls. Cooling and increased heat exchange are achieved with an alternating pattern of channels and projections that collectively define a plurality of edges either parallel or perpendicular to the electrode axis. Blood or other biological fluids can flow through the channels along the exterior surface of the electrode to help cool the electrode while heat is simultaneously transferred from the electrode body, edges and projections to the surrounding tissue. A catheter having a self cooled tip electrode, in conjunction with one or more ring electrodes, may be used to form a large virtual electrode capable of creating longer, deeper tissue lesions.
