A capacitive touch screen panel includes top and bottom ITO coated glass sheets that may both be connected to detection electronics (e.g., a controller) by way of a single, normal flexible printed circuit connector. The ITO coated surface of each of the top and bottom glass sheets may face each other and a transparent material such as an optically clear adhesive may be disposed between the top and bottom glass sheets. In some embodiments, a number of spacers may be disposed between the top and bottom glass sheets to maintain a desired gap between the sheets. In other embodiments, the single, normal flexible printed circuit connector may generally reside in a single plane.

A novel capacitive touch system includes a first controller having a plurality of channels, a first sensor row having a first discrete sensor element and a second discrete sensor element, a second sensor row having a first discrete sensor element and a second discrete sensor element, a first sensor column, a second sensor column, and a first signal line electrically coupling one of the plurality of channels of the controller to both the first and second discrete sensor elements of the first sensor row. In a particular embodiment, the first controller includes a second channel electrically connected to both the first and second discrete sensor elements of the second sensor row. In another particular embodiment, the capacitive touch system includes a second controller having a plurality of channels, the first sensor column includes a first discrete sensor element and a second discrete sensor element, and a first channel of the second controller is electrically coupled to both the first and second discrete sensor elements of the first sensor column.

Multi-driver touch panel

A heater for a display such as a liquid crystal display (LCD). The heater includes a transparent film, a transparent conductive layer formed on a surface of the transparent film, and an optically clear adhesive (OCA) disposed over the conductive layer. The heater may be laminated directly to a rear transparent (e.g., glass) plate of an LC cell of the LCD using the OCA in a manner that is substantially free of air gaps or bubbles between the heater and the LC cell. Front and rear polarizers may be respectively disposed on outside surfaces of the LC cell and the heater.

Heater for liquid crystal display

A patterned substrate for a touch screen sensor assembly that includes a plurality of electrodes that are formed from a first transparent conductive layer that has a first surface resistivity. The substrate also has a plurality of traces that may be used to couple the electrodes controller associated with the touch screen sensor assembly. The traces are formed from a second conductive layer that has a second surface resistivity that is less than the surface resistivity of the first conductive layer. The first and second conductive layers may be formed from indium tin oxide (ITO) having different surface resistivities. A second, similarly configured substrate can be provided and may be spaced apart from the first substrate by a dielectric spacer.

An integrated touch screen and display device includes a polarizer with a layer of transparent conductive material deposited thereon. A touch screen controller is coupled to electrodes of the transparent conductive layer to detect the location of touches by, for example, a finger or stylus. A method for producing an integrated touch screen and display device includes applying a transparent conductive coating to an outer surface of a polarizer of a display device, creating electrodes in the conductive coating, and coupling the electrodes to a touch screen controller. A double super twisted nematic display that includes a capacitive touch panel integrated into a compensation cell of the display is also provided herein.

Integration design for capacitive touch panels and liquid crystal displays

A method for manufacturing a touch screen sensor assembly that includes providing a first transparent substrate, depositing a first non-metallic conductive layer onto the first substrate, removing the first conductive layer from a viewing portion of the first substrate, depositing a second non-metallic conductive layer onto the viewing portion, and removing portions of the second and first conductive layers to respectively form a first electrode pattern and a plurality of traces. The disclosed method also includes providing a second transparent substrate, depositing a third non-metallic conductive layer onto a viewing portion of the second substrate, removing portions of the third conductive layer to form a second electrode pattern, and bonding the first substrate to the second substrate using an optically clear adhesive. Each trace on the first substrate formed from the first conductive layer is electrically coupled to at least one electrode of either the first or second electrode patterns.
