A technique facilitates improved actuation and use of packers which may be disposed along a well string placed in a borehole, e.g. a wellbore. Each packer may be constructed with a tubing, sometimes referred to as a mandrel, and an expandable metal bladder secured around the tubing via connections. The packer may further comprise a sealing element mounted about the expandable metal bladder. The packer also comprises couplings, e.g. a first coupling and a second coupling, connected at opposite ends of the tubing. The couplings each having a hole therethrough to provide a feedthrough running from an exterior to an interior of the tubing at both ends of the tubing.

System and methodology for bypassing through an expandable metal packer

A technique facilitates improved actuation and use of packers disposed along a well string and placed in a borehole, e.g. a wellbore. A plurality of packers may be disposed along a base pipe, e.g. a production tubing. Each packer has an expandable sleeve which may be expanded into a fully expanded configuration establishing a secure, sealing engagement with a surrounding wall. e.g. a surrounding wellbore wall. Additionally, a hydrolock prevention valve system comprises a valve which may be actuated to allow or block the flow of fluid from an annular region or regions between the packers.

Multiple expandable metal packers with hydrolock prevention

An alignment assembly for use with a well string having a downhole tool to be positioned within a cased wellbore. The alignment assembly may include an outer assembly, an inner assembly positioned at least partially within the outer assembly, a locator, and a compensator. The locator may releasably couple the outer assembly to the inner assembly and be shaped to engage with a shoulder of the casing to align the downhole tool with a location along the casing. The compensator may be coupled to the outer assembly, positioned about the inner assembly, and configured to limit relative axial movement between the outer assembly and the inner assembly.

Completion locator assembly

A mechanical indexer for an intelligent flow control valve comprising a plurality of choke positions is provided. The indexer can cycle from a full closed position, to a full open position, to gradually decreasing choke sizes. The indexer can cycle from a full closed position, to a full open position, to gradually decreasing choke sizes alternating with the full open position. The indexer can cycle from a full closed position, to a full open position, to a full closed position, to a full open position, to gradually decreasing choke sizes alternating with a full open position. The indexer can cycle from a full closed position, to a full open position, to a full closed position, to a full open position, to gradually decreasing choke sizes.

Intelligent flow control valve reverse choke position

A technique facilitates operation of a valve system a having combined valve such as a combined formation isolation valve and a circulating valve. In well operations, the valve system is deployed downhole into a wellbore on a tubing string. The formation isolation valve and the circulating valve are operable independently via inputs, e.g. hydraulic inputs provided through less than three hydraulic control lines. The formation isolation valve and the circulating valve may be coupled by a mechanical linkage, which enables operation of the two valves via the hydraulic control lines. In some embodiments, the formation isolation valve and the circulating valve may be operated via an integrated shifting tool.

Combined valve system and methodology

Wireless multi-stage completions for providing power to and telemetry communication with downhole device(s) are provided. A power generation system can be disposed along a production string to power downhole devices. The power generation system can be driven by annulus fluid flow or production fluid flow and converts the fluid flow to electrical energy. The power generation system can be retrievably disposed in a side pocket mandrel.

Power generation for multi-stage wireless completions

A system includes a sliding sleeve valve including a valve body and an inner sleeve selectively shiftable within the valve body, at least one flow port contained in the valve body, at least one metal to metal seal provided between an inside wall of the valve body and the inner sleeve, and a shifting tool. The inner sleeve of the sliding sleeve valve includes a plurality of selective profiles, and the shifting tool is engageable with the plurality of selective profiles of the inner sleeve. The shifting tool includes two halves that each include a recess for accommodating a plurality of control lines.

A completion assembly includes tubing that defines an axis that extends from a distal shoe end to a proximal uphole end where the tubing includes: a washdown shoe; a plug seat configured to receive a plug that hinders flow through the washdown shoe; a screen; a fluid loss control device that permits, in an exterior space, flow of fluid in an uphole direction and that hinders flow of fluid in a downhole direction; a circulation valve that is actuatable to permit flow of fluid from an interior space to the exterior space; a formation isolation valve that is actuatable to form a flow barrier in the interior space; a packer that is actuatable to extend radially outwardly from the tubing to form an annular flow barrier in the exterior space; and a barrier component that is actuatable to form a flow barrier in the interior space of the tubing.

Completion assembly

A technique facilitates injection via an injector well while providing automatic restriction of unwanted back flow. A completion positioned in a borehole facilitates the injection operation. The completion includes a packer coupled with a tubing and oriented to enable formation of a seal between the tubing and a surrounding casing. A formation isolation valve is coupled to the tubing. Additionally, a mechanical assembly is coupled to the tubing at, for example, a location below the formation isolation valve. The mechanical assembly may include a mechanical formation isolation valve and a flow controller. The flow controller is automatically actuatable to enable a flow of injection fluid in a downhole direction while blocking fluid flow in an uphole direction while the mechanical formation isolation valve is in a closed position. The flow controller includes a plurality of flow restrictors positioned to control flow between an interior and an exterior of the tubing.

Back flow restriction system and methodology for injection well

An actuator assembly for effective interventionless activation of a valve in wells of multilateral architecture. The assembly may be pressure actuated from an oilfield surface even in certain circumstances where another valve in another leg of the well has been opened in a manner compromising pressure control of the well. Due to the multi-stage nature of the actuator, pressure based activation remains viable as a result of supplemental and/or fail-safe modes of actuation, for example, where such pressure control becomes compromised.

A technique facilitates monitoring of parameters along the exterior of a tubing/casing deployed in a borehole. An array of sensors is positioned outside of the tubing/casing and within a borehole wall. The array of sensors is coupled to a surface via a communication line routed through an inductive coupler system. The inductive coupler system has a first inductive coupler member located at an outside position and a second inductive coupler member located at an inside position with respect to the tubing/casing. The arrangement enables real-time monitoring of events outside of the tubing/casing.

System and methodology for monitoring in a borehole

A technique facilitates controlled injection of a chemical injection fluid at a desired downhole location. A chemical injection valve is mounted along a well tubing and is disposed externally of an internal flow passage through the well tubing. The chemical injection valve is operated via hydraulic pressure which is applied to actuate the chemical injection valve between closed flow and open flow positions. The chemical injection valve controls flow of the chemical injection fluid to at least one injection port. The at least one injection port may be positioned to inject the chemical injection fluid into the internal flow passage of the well tubing.

A technique provides a simplified and cost-effective approach for deployment and operation of completion systems. The construction of the overall completion system and the deployment methodology provide an efficient approach for placement and operation of completion systems in a variety of wellbores. In many applications, the system and methodology may be used for sand control applications in which the completion equipment comprises sand control features, such as sand screens deployed along well zones.

Fluid loss control completion system and methodology

A technique combines a wireless coupler system with casing to communicate signals from and/or to a device external to the casing. The wireless coupler system may comprise an inductive coupler system formed with a female inductive coupler disposed along an exterior of the well casing and a male inductive coupler mounted along tubing disposed within the well casing. The female inductive coupler is operatively coupled with the sensor and the male inductive coupler is operatively coupled with a communication line routed along the tubing. The inductive coupler system is constructed to facilitate alignment of the male inductive coupler with the female inductive coupler as the tubing is moved along an interior of the well casing. Additionally, the inductive coupler system may be constructed with a bypass channel to facilitate the flow of fluid and routing of communication lines through the inductive coupler system.

A tool for deploying a wellbore plug in a well using flowable eutectic material is disclosed. A tool having a mandrel, an obstruction, and a flowable quantity of eutectic material in a solid state is positioned in the wellbore. The obstruction is actuated and the flowable material is heated to melt. The obstruction supports the flowed material as it cools to form a plug in the wellbore.
