Disclosed is plate insertion tool useful with bone plates having a body and a pair of retainers, such as facing, inwardly extending fingers, for clamping a bone plate therebetween, and a pusher movable relative to the body between a fully disengaged position and a fully engaged position, the pusher in use engaging a shoulder of the compression plate. When the pusher is in an engaged position, the legs of the plate are temporarily tensioned by bending the legs away from the body of the plate. The body of the tool includes a pivot joint about which said pusher pivots. The tool may be used to temporarily tension the legs of the plate prior to insertion into holes in a bone.

Plate inserter tool

A calcaneal plate inserter tool includes a body portion, a plate retainer assembly coupled to the body portion, a sled coupled to the body portion and movable relative to the body portion, and a lock coupled to the body portion. The lock is operable between a lock position and an unlocked position. The lock impedes movement of the sled relative to the body portion when in the lock position. The sled also includes a guide portion.

Calcaneal plate inserter tool

A staple instrument includes a staple holder comprising a pair of jaws, a drive shaft, a rotational handle, and a coupling to convert rotational motion of the handle into axial advancement of the shaft. A distal end of the shaft cooperates with the staple holder to cause three-point bending of a staple bridge to thereby open the legs of the staple.

Staple instrument

A compression staple system for bone fixation may include a compression staple configured to span first and second bone portions. The staple may apply compression between the first and second bone portions. An inserter may be configured to releasably engage the staple. The inserter may include a stationary jaw including a first retention mechanism and a moveable jaw including a second retention mechanism. The moveable jaw may be moveable between a closed configuration wherein the stationary jaw may be spaced apart from the moveable jaw a first distance, and an open configuration wherein the stationary jaw may be spaced apart from the moveable jaw a second distance greater than the first. The staple may be captive within the inserter in the closed configuration. The staple may be releasable from the inserter in the open configuration, and the stationary and moveable jaws may remain parallel between the close and open configurations.

Compression staple systems and methods

A Lisfranc reconstruction device includes a pair of operator grips mechanically linked to a first arm that includes a barrel and a second arm that includes a jaw whereby motion of the grips is mechanically transformed into relative translation of the barrel and the jaw for compression of a portion of a Lisfranc joint complex therebetween. The device includes a retention mechanism, such as a ratchet, to enable retention of the barrel and jaw when the desired position has been reached. The device may be provided in the form of a kit that includes a wire guide sleeve, a pilot wire, and a Lisfranc screw, in particular a cannulated Lisfranc screw that is sized to travel over the wire in a defined trajectory to facilitate proper screw placement. The device may be used for reconstruction of a traumatic injury to the Lisfranc joint complex.

Lisfranc reconstruction device, kit, and method

A surgical staple is provided having a bridge and at least a first leg and a second leg. The bridge has a first end and a second end. The surgical staple has a first extension of the bridge adjacent the first end of the bridge and extending on an opposite side of the first leg relative to the second leg and a second extension of the bridge adjacent the second end of the bridge and extending on an opposite side of the second leg relative to the first leg. The bridge may also have a waisted or reduced width mid-section.

Surgical staple

Apparatus and methods are described for use in securing a first bone relative to a second bone using a pair of surgical staples or, alternatively, a surgical staple and a bone screw. When a pair of staples are used, one of the legs of one of the staples may pass between the legs of the another of the staples. When a staple and a bone screw are used, the bone screw may pass between the legs of the staple. A guide tool can be used during the drilling of the holes for the legs of the staples or the legs of the staple and a bone screw. The guide tool provides guides for drilling guide holes for the staples or for the screw and staple.

Apparatus and methods for joining bones

Apparatus and methods are provided for using a plate to fuse bones together, including reducing or stabilizing a fracture or osteotomy. Legs of the plate are inserted into pre-drilled guide holes in one of the bones and one or more screws are inserted through apertures and into another of the bones to secure the plate to the bones. A plate insertion tool can be used to temporarily tension the legs prior to insertion into predrilled guide holes in a bone by bending or pivoting the legs away from the body. A tensioning tool can be used to tension the plate after the legs are inserted into the guide holes in the bone and during the insertion of one or more of the screws.

An orthopedic stabilization device is provided having a first button, a second button and a suture extending therebetween. The first button has a base portion and a depending loop having an elongated loop opening therethrough. A locking member extends through the elongated loop opening and is retained with the loop when in a retained orientation and insertable or removable when in an unretained orientation. A portion of the suture is frictionally retainable between the locking member and the loop to thereby tie the first button to the second button when the locking member is in a clamping position.

Orthopedic stabilization device, kit and method

When a staple and a bone screw are used, the bone screw may pass between the legs of the staple. The guide tool provides guides for drilling guide holes for the staples or for the screw and staple. The guides can be fixed relative to each other during drilling of the guide holes.

Arthroplasty prosthesis

A staple instrument is provided. The staple instrument includes a staple holder, a rotational drive shaft, and a linkage operatively coupled to the staple holder. The linkage is configured to expand the staple holder via an expansion motion imparted thereon. A converter coupling intermediate the rotational drive shaft and the linkage converts rotational motion of the rotational drive shaft into expansion of the staple holder. The staple instrument also includes a housing that supports the linkage, converter coupling, and rotational drive shaft. The rotational drive shaft has a stop surface that engages a corresponding surface formed in the housing to inhibit proximal translation of the rotational drive shaft relative to the housing.

There is provided a staple instrument for inserting and removing staples from bone. A rotational drive shaft is turned to provide finite adjustments to open and close jaws used to hold and adjust the legs of a staple. A converter coupling converts the rotational motion of the drive shaft to liner motion to operate an articulated linkage system that moves the jaws. The jaws include a sharp edge to engage under a bridge of a staple inserted in bone segments and a convex pry surface that cooperates with the edge to pry a staple from the bone segments when the instrument is pulled away from the bone segments.
