A method, a system, and a computer program product for enabling reliable millimeter links in wireless communications systems. One or more beams associated with a plurality of communication paths is trained to determine one or more angles corresponding to the beams at which the beams are received by at least one of a first communication device and a second communication device. Using the determined one or more angles, at least one communication path in the plurality of communication paths is selected for transmission of one or more data packets between the first and second communication devices. Using the selected communication path, one or more data packets are transmitted.

Enabling reliable millimeter-wave links using multi-beam, pro-active tracking, and phased arrays designs

A beam-steering backscatter circuit in an integrated tag device. The circuit includes an antenna array and SP4T reflector array configured to receive and transmit through the antenna array. A baseband phase-shifting module modulates an incident signal based upon tag data to create an output signal and re-radiates the output signal with a controllable angle of direction through the SP4T reflector array. A phase locked loop synchronized with a wake-up receiver provides an intermediate frequency (IF) clock to the baseband phase shifting-module.

Beam-steering backscatter circuit for integrated tag device

A method for communicating directly with commodity Wi-Fi transceivers (TRXs) via backscatter modulation in an integrated tag device is provided. The method includes sensing an incident Wi-Fi? compliant wake-up signal. The method than reflects the incident Wi-Fi-complaint wake-up signal by encoding data from the tag device such that the reflected signal follows the Wi-Fi standard compliant and can be decoded by another WiFi-device. An integrated device includes a downlink Wi-Fi compatible wake-up receiver that checks timing of Wi-Fi compatible signals for a wake-up packet. The device has a modulator that is turned on in response to the wake-up packet and a mixer in the modulator hat mixes tag data with a payload packet from received Wi-Fi payload. Backscatter switches backscatter the response.

Low power Wi-Fi backscatter communication

A method, a system, and a computer program product for localization of wireless devices. At least one of mapping and wireless data describing a physical environment is received. The physical environment includes one or more wireless access points. Using the received mapping and/or wireless data, a location of each of the wireless access points is determined. Using the determined location of the wireless access points, one or more wireless devices positioned in the physical environment are located.

Termination circuits for backscatter communication in an integrated wake-up receiver tag device. A reflective termination circuit includes a first branch having an open load and a shorted load with first branch offset reflection coefficients and with a connection to an antenna. A second branch has a capacitive load and an inductive load with second branch offset reflection coefficients and with a connection to an antenna. A MIMO termination circuit includes plurality of transmission lines each providing a unique delay that is offset compared to other ones of the plurality of transmission lines. Switched connections to a corresponding array of antennas introduce a delay between a received and backscattered signal at each antenna in the array of antennas.

Termination circuit for low power backscatter communication

An electromagnetic wave manipulation apparatus may include a substrate integrated with a liquid crystal. For example, the substrate may include one or more cavities filled with the liquid crystal. Alternatively and/or additionally, the substrate may include one or more layers of material interposed with the liquid crystal. The liquid crystal may be subjected to a voltage bias that alters the dielectric constant of the liquid crystal. Doing so may introduce a corresponding field offset between the input signal and the output signal of the apparatus. Subjecting the liquid crystal to different voltage biases may give rise to a spatial phase gradient that enables the apparatus to perform a variety of electromagnetic wave transformations such as reflection, refraction, retro-reflection, amplification, and cancellation. By performing such transformations, the apparatus may change the radiation pattern of its output signal, thus steering its output signal towards or away from a receiver.

Apparatus for electromagnetic wave manipulation

A method, a system, and a computer program for executing high resolution spectrum monitoring. A sensor receives an input signal having a varying frequency content over time. One or more samples of the received input signal are sampled. The samples of the received input signal include one or more swept signal samples generated by sweeping, using a center frequency of the sensor, the received input signal across an entire frequency spectrum associated with the received input signal. Sampling of the samples of the received signal is performed while performing the sweeping. The signal samples are processed.

Virtual MIMO with smart surfaces

A method, a system, and a computer program product for determining a location of a communication device. Data corresponding to a detected transmission of a data packet between a tag device and one or more communication devices is received on one or more communication channels. At least one of a channel state information and a signal strength associated with the detected transmission for each frequency band in a plurality of frequency bands are determined. Based on the determined channel state information, one or more lengths of signal paths corresponding to the detected transmission of the data packet are determined. A shortest length in across one or more communication devices is selected to determine a location of the tag device.
