Techniques for enhancing performance in Industrial Internet-of-Things (IIoT) scenarios, including techniques for time-sensitive networking (TSN) and 5G wireless network integration. An example method, performed by a wireless device, comprises receiving system information (SI) from a radio base station (RBS) of a radio access network (RAN), the SI being indicative of support for TSN through the RBS, and establishing at least one TSN stream with an external data network, through the RBS. The example method further includes receiving a first timing signal from the wireless communications network, via the RBS, receiving a second timing signal from the external TSN data network to which the wireless device is connected, comparing the first timing signal to the second timing signal to determine an offset, and transmitting the offset to the wireless communications network.

A method of reinforcement learning is used for placement of a plurality of service functions at nodes of a telecommunications network. The state of the system is defined by an allocation matrix, wherein each first vector of the allocation matrix corresponds to a respective one of the nodes of the telecommunications network, each second vector of the allocation matrix corresponds to a respective one of the plurality of service functions. Moreover, each cell of the allocation matrix contains a value 1 if the one of the plurality of service functions corresponding to the respective second vector is placed on the one of the nodes of the telecommunications network corresponding to the respective first vector, and otherwise contains a value 0.

User plane selection using reinforcement learning

Systems and methods are disclosed herein for User Equipment (UE) assisted data collection for mobility prediction. In one embodiment, a method performed by a UE for UE-assisted data collection for mobility prediction comprises receiving, from a network node of a cellular communications system, a UE trajectory prediction model for predicting a UE trajectory. The method further comprises executing the UE trajectory prediction model to generate a predicted trajectory for the UE, comparing the actual UE trajectory to the predicted UE trajectory, and sending, to a network node of the cellular communications system, a result of the comparison of the actual UE trajectory to the predicted UE trajectory. In this manner, mobility prediction performance is improved.

Systems and methods are disclosed herein for output pacing in a cellular communications system that serves as a virtual Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) node in a TSN network. In some embodiments, a method of operation of a boundary node associated with a cellular communications system that operates as a virtual TSN node in a TSN network comprises receiving user plane traffic from a node in the cellular communications system. The user plane traffic is user plane traffic received by the cellular communications system from a previous hop TSN node. The method further comprises performing output pacing for the user plane traffic when outputting the user plane traffic to a next hop TSN node such that the user plane traffic is output to the next hop TSN node at a rate that matches a desired rate at the next hop TSN node. Corresponding embodiments of a boundary node are also disclosed.

According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a method, performed by a first network node of a 5GC for providing flexible information exposure in the 5GC and an OAM system, comprises: receiving, from a second network node, a request to register the second network node as a provider of data and/or a compute function; registering the second network node as a provider of the data and/or the compute function; storing information associating the second network node with the data and/or compute function provided by the second network node; and sending, to the second network node, a response to the request to register the second network node as a provider of data and/or a compute function.

The method includes obtaining information regarding a predicted positional change indicating a new future position of the WD and selecting a second UPF which is more suitable than the first UPF for transmission of data between an application server and the WD for the new future position. A de-jitter function for holding-and-forwarding packets such that the packets are delivered with an agreed fixed latency. The de-jitter function can be placed at the edge of a virtual 5G TSN switch (e.g. the de-jitter function can be deployed as part of a UPF for uplink (UL) packets and/or it can be deployed as part of a user equipment (UE) for downlink (DL) packets). By using the de-jitter function, the TSN can consider the wireless network as having a consistent, deterministic latency with no jitter.

Systems and methods to enable 5G system support for conveying time synchronization are provided. In some embodiments, a method performed by a wireless device for conveying external time domain information is provided. The method includes receiving a message in a first time domain used by the wireless device, the message comprising external time domain information; determining information about a second time domain based on the external time domain information; and conveying information about the second time domain to another node. In some embodiments, timing information is included into a GPRS Tunneling Protocol (GTP) payload, and the wireless device can get timing information directly from the data payload. This minimizes the RAN and/or gNB impact and adds the potential for multiple time domain support.
