A method of preparing an organosilicon compound via selective silylation of ethylene is disclosed. The method comrises prises reacting via silylation (A) a hydridochlorosilane compound and (B) ethylene in the presence of (C) a catalyst, thereby preparing the organosilicon compound. The silylation may be selectively conducted as a dehydrogenative coupling to prepare the organosilicon ompound as a vinylchlorosilane compound, or as a hydrosilylation to prepare the organosilicon compound as an ethylchlorosilane compound. The catalyst (C) comprises a Ru(0) complex, and may be recycled for use in subsequent silylation reactions without purification. The organosilicon compound prepared according to the method is also disclosed.

Selective preparation of vinyl- and ethyl-functionalized chlorosilanes

This disclosure provides a method of preparing a silanol-functional organosilicon compound with a cytochrome P450 variant that facilitates the oxidization of a silyl hydride group to a silanol group in the presence of oxygen. The method includes combining the cytochrome P450 variant and an organosilicon compound having at least one silicon-bonded hydrogen atom to give a reaction mixture and exposing the reaction mixture to oxygen to oxidize the organosilicon compound, thereby preparing the silanol-functional organosilicon compound. Cytochrome P450 variants suitable for use in the method are also disclosed, along with methods for engineering and optimizing the same. Nucleic acids encoding the cytochrome P450 variants and compositions, expression vectors, and host cells including the same are also disclosed.

Method of preparing silanols with selective cytochrome P450 variants and related compounds and compositions

A method for preparing a hydrocarbylhydrocarbyloxysilane of formula RHSi(OR)(4), where each R is independently a hydrocarbyl group and subscript a is 1 to 4 and subscript b is 1 to 2 is disclosed. The method includes heating ingredients including a hydrocarbyl carbonate and a source of silicon and catalyst. The method can be used to make dimethyldimethoxysilane.

Method for preparing hydrocarbylhydrocarbyloxysilanes

A method is useful for preparing alkylalkoxysilanes, such as alkylalkoxysilanes, particularly dimethyldimethoxysilane. The method includes heating at a temperature of 150&#xb0; C. to 400&#xb0; C., ingredients including an alkyl ether and carbon dioxide, and a source of silicon and catalyst. The carbon dioxide eliminates the need to add halogenated compounds during the method.

Method for preparing alkylalkoxysilanes

A method for preparing a reaction product including an aryl-functional silane includes sequential steps (1) and (2). Step (1) is contacting, under silicon deposition conditions, (A) an ingredient including (I) a halosilane such as silicon tetrahalide and optionally (II) hydrogen (H); and (B) a metal combination comprising copper (Cu) and at least one other metal, where the at least one other metal is selected from the group consisting of gold (Au), cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), iron (Fe), magnesium (Mg), manganese (Mn), nickel (Ni), palladium (Pd), and silver (Ag); thereby forming a silicon alloy catalyst comprising Si, Cu and the at least one other metal. Step (2) is contacting the silicon alloy catalyst and (C) a reactant including an aryl halide under silicon etching conditions.

Method for producing aryl-functional silanes

A process for preparing a reaction product including a halosilane includes: contacting an unsaturated hydrocarbyl halide and a ternary intermetallic compound at a temperature of 300&#xb0; C. to 700&#xb0; C. to form the reaction product. The ternary intermetallic compound includes copper, silicon and a transition metal. The halosilane in the reaction product has formula R1R&#x2014;HSiX&#x3e; where each Ris independently a saturated monovalent hydrocarbyl group, each Ris independently an unsaturated monovalent hydrocarbyl group; each X is independently a halogen atom; subscript m is 1, 2, or 3; subscript n is 0, 1, or 2; subscript o is 0, 1, or 2; and a quantity (m+n+o) is 1, 2, or 3. At least a portion of the unsaturated hydrocarbyl groups in the unsaturated hydrocarbyl halide are converted to saturated hydrocarbyl groups (R) in the halosilane.

Process for production of halosilanes from silicon-containing ternary intermetallic compounds

A method of making a trihalosilane comprising contacting an organotrihalosilane according to the formula RS1X3 (I), wherein R is C-Chydrocarbyl and each X independently is halo, with hydrogen, wherein the mole ratio of the organotrihalosilane to hydrogen is from 0.009:1 to 1:2300, in the presence of a catalyst comprising a metal selected from (i) Re, (ii) a mixture comprising Re and at least one element selected from Pd, Ru, Mn, Cu, and Rh, (iii) a mixture comprising Ir and at least one element selected from Pd and Rh, (iv) Mn, (v) a mixture comprising Mn and Rh, (vi) Ag, (vii) Mg, and (viii) Rh at from 300 to 800&#xb0; C. to form a trihalosilane.

Method of making a trihalosilane

A method of forming chloro-substituted silanes from the reaction of an alkoxysilane with a chlorinating agent in the optional presence of a catalyst is provided. More specifically, chloro-substituted silanes, including but not limited to silicon tetrachloride, are formed by reacting a chlorinating agent, such as thionyl chloride, with an alkylalkoxysilane having the formula (R'O)SiR, where R and R&#x2032; are independently selected alkyl groups comprising one or more carbon atoms and x is 0, 1, 2, or 3. The catalyst may be dimethylformamide, (chloromethylene)dimethyliminium chloride, or triethylamine, among others. The chloro-substituted silane formed in the reaction along with several by-products has the formula (R&#x2032;O)SiRCl; where x is 0, 1, 2, or 3 and y is 1, 2, 3, or 4. One of the by-products of the reaction is an alkyl chloride.

Alternative methods for the synthesis of organosilicon compounds

An electrolytic process may be used to generate reactive metal silicides with Group 1 metals of the periodic table and/or Group 2 metals of the periodic table, and/or aluminum. Exemplary reactive metal silicides include magnesium silicide (MgSi).

Electrolytic process to silicides

A method comprises separate and consecutive steps (i) and (ii). Step (i) includes contacting a copper catalyst with hydrogen gas and a halogenated silane monomer at a temperature of 500&#xb0; C. to 1400&#xb0; C. to form a silicon-containing copper catalyst comprising at least 0.1% (w/w) of silicon. Step (ii) includes contacting the silicon-containing copper catalyst with an organohalide at a temperature of 100&#xb0; C. to 600&#xb0; C. to form a reaction product. The organohalide has formula HCX, where X is a halogen atom, subscript a is an integer of 0 or more, subscript b is an integer of 1 or more, and subscript c is an integer of 2 or more. The method produces a reaction product. The reaction product includes a halogenated silahydrocarbylene.

Method for preparing a diorganodihalosilane

A reaction product is formed utilizing a method that includes the step of combining a metal silicide and an aliphatic hydrocarbyl halide at a temperature of from 200&#xb0; C. to 600&#xb0; C. The aliphatic hydrocarbyl halide has the formula HCX, wherein a is 0 or more, b is 1 or more, c is one or more, and X is halo. The method allows the reaction product to be formed in a predictable and controlled manner. Moreover, the components used in this method can be easily recycled and/or re-used in other processes.
