A gutter cover for directing the flow of rainwater from a building roof into a gutter mounted to the peripheral edge thereof while preventing debris such as leaves and twigs from entering and clogging the gutter. The cover is secured to the roof of the building such that rainwater flowing down the shingles will flow across the cover at the bottom roof line. A lower end of the cover has an arcuate nose disposed substantially above the outer edge of the gutter. The surface of the gutter is treated with one or more combinations of coatings and/or substrate textures to slow the flow of water while improving flow to the cover surface. Rainwater will flow around the arcuate nose into the gutter while debris carried by the rainwater is expelled outwardly over the edge of the gutter.

An article is coated with a multi-layer decorative and protective coating. The coating contains a polymeric basecoat layer containing (i) an epoxy urethane resin or (ii) the reaction products of a polyamine and an epoxy urethane resin. Over the polymeric basecoat layer is a vapor deposited chromium, chromium compound, refractory metal compound or refractory metal alloy compound decorative and protective layer.

The invention relates to a multilayer article which includes a substrate, a first layer comprising a partial condensate of a diorganodiorganooxysilane having the formula R Si(OR&prime;) or an organotriorganooxysilane having the formula RSi(OR&prime;) , or both, where R is independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups containing about 1-3 carbon atoms, aromatic groups containing about 6-13 carbon atoms, the vinyl radical, the 3,3,3-trifluoropropyl radical, the gamma-glycidoxypropyl radical and the gamma-methacryloxypropyl radical, and R&prime; is independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups containing about 1-8 carbon atoms, aromatic groups containing about 6-20 carbon atoms, and hydrogen; and a second layer deposited on the first layer, the second layer comprising an organosilicon material which has been polymerized and oxidized in a plasma, the second layer containing silicon, oxygen, carbon, and hydrogen.

Layered article with improved microcrack resistance and method of making

A method of handling molded plastic glazing panels during processing is disclosed, using one or more stabilizing handling tabs projecting outwardly from the perimeter of each panel, and which is molded at the same time as with the glazing panel itself is molded. Each tab has spaced apart bosses, each having through opening adapted to mate with pins projecting from a holder structure. Gussets may be molded into the bosses to control drip when the panel is coated with a liquid and to stiffen the bosses. The tabs enable stable positioning of the panel to avoid formation of optical flaws in the panels, and to facilitate compact vertical stacking of the panels during handling.

Method of processing a molded plastic glazing panel

A meshed for producing an abrasion-resistant, ultraviolet radiation cured coating on a surface of a polymeric substrate is disclosed, as well as the article produced from the method. The uncured coating material which is substantially free of non-reactive volatile components is (i) applied to the substrate (ii) heated along with the substrate to a temperature sufficient to drive a portion of the coating material into a region beneath the surface of the substrate, (iii) and cured onto the substrate by exposing the coating material under anaerobic conditions to sufficient ultraviolet radiation to cure the coating material. Heating of the solvent-free coating prior to ultraviolet radiation cure and while in contact with the substrate results in improved adhesion of the coating to the substrate.

Acrylic coated polycarbonate article

An ultraviolet radiation curable silica coating composition containing (a) acrylic monomers, (b) functionalized colloidal silica, (c) acrylated urethanes, (d) an ultraviolet radiation absorber, and (e) a photoinitiator. The coating composition once applied to and cured on a thermoplastic substrate provides a coating which exhibits improved flexibility and weathering. The coatings are useful for providing abrasion resistance and weatherability to thermoplastic, for example polycarbonate, substrates.

A method for producing an abrasion-resistant, ultraviolet radiation cured coating on a surface of a polymeric substrate is disclosed, as well as the article produced from the method.
