In an embodiment, an ophthalmic surgical laser system comprises a laser delivery system for delivering a pulsed laser beam to a target in a subject's eye, an XY-scan device to deflect the pulsed laser beam, a Z-scan device to modify a depth of a focus of the pulsed laser beam, and a controller configured to form a top lenticular incision and a bottom lenticular incision of a lens in the subject's eye, or just a bottom lenticular incision.

Femtosecond laser system and methods for photorefractive keratectomy

A system for determining a vision treatment for an eye of a patient is provided which includes a memory and a processor, in communication with the memory, configured to receive a first treatment target corresponding to a first target shape of a surface of the eye, obtain a periphery modification function (PMF), determine a second treatment target corresponding to a second target shape of the surface of the eye by multiplying, for each of a plurality of points on the surface of the eye, the PMF by the first treatment target, and scale the second treatment target using a scaling factor such that values of the second treatment target are scaled to be greater at a mid-periphery of the eye and scaled to be lower at a far-periphery of the eye. A treatment parameter of a treatment applied to the surface of the eye is controlled by the scaled second treatment target.

Systems and methods for reducing spherical aberration using periphery modification

Embodiments of the present invention encompass systems and methods for generating a vision treatment target for an eye of a patient. Exemplary techniques can involve obtaining a wavefront measurement for the eye of the patient, processing the wavefront measurement, using a low pass filter, to obtain an ocular wavefront, and generating the vision treatment target based on the ocular wavefront. In some cases, the wavefront is processed by applying a Fourier transform to the wavefront measurement to obtain a Fourier spectrum of the wavefront, convolving, in the Fourier domain, the Fourier spectrum of the wavefront and the low pass filter to obtain a Fourier spectrum convolution result, and applying an inverse transform to the convolution result to obtain the ocular wavefront. The ocular wavefront can represent a low pass filtered version of the wavefront measurement, such that high spatial frequency features present in the wavefront measurement are not present in the ocular wavefront.

Wavefront measurement pre-smoothing systems and methods

Methods and systems for tracking a position and torsional orientation of a patient's eye. In one embodiment, the present invention provides methods and software for registering a first image of an eye with a second image of an eye. In another embodiment, the present invention provides methods and software for tracking a torsional movement of the eye. In a particular usage, the present invention tracks the torsional cyclorotation and translational movement of a patient's eye so as to improve the delivery of a laser energy to the patient's cornea.

Methods and systems for tracking a torsional orientation and position of an eye

Embodiments of the present invention provide methods and systems for determining an ablation treatment for an eye of a patient. The systems and method may involve determining an ellipsoid shape corresponding to an anterior corneal surface of the patient's eye. The ellipsoid shape may include an anterior portion, a major axis, and an apex, where the major axis intersects the anterior portion at the apex. The systems and method may also involve determining a tilted orientation of the eye, such as when the patient fixates on a target during a laser ablation procedure. Treatment validation techniques include generating a modified treatment target from an original treatment target using a modification process, and comparing induced aberrations provided by the original and modified treatment targets, so as to verify the modified treatment target or the modification process. In some cases, a modification process may include a deconvolution process, a low pass filter process, a scaling process, or an adjustment process. The induced aberrations may include high order aberrations, such as spherical aberration.

The system directs the desired optical light output to the eye with the variable illumination source optionally to prevent the pupil size from exceeding certain limits so as to improve torsional tracking of markers of the eye.

The present invention provides improved methods and systems for laser beam positioning, shape profile, size profile, drift, and/or deflection calibration using an image capture device, such as a microscope camera, for enhanced calibration accuracy and precision. The methods and systems are particularly suited for iris calibration and hysteresis measurement of a variable diameter aperture. One method for calibrating laser pulses from a laser eye surgery system using an image capture device comprises imaging a known object with an image capture device. A pulsed laser beam is directed onto a calibration surface so as to leave a mark on the calibration surface. The mark on the calibration surface is then imaged with the image capture device. The laser eye surgery system is calibrated by comparing the image of the mark on the calibration surface to the image of the known object.
