A computing system for learning a device type and message formats used by a device is provided. The computing system includes an interface and a processor. The interface is receptive of documents describing identification information and communication and application protocols of devices. The processor is coupled with the interface to obtain rules of network packet analysis using document analytics and identify identification information and communication and application protocols of network messages from devices using the rules.

In an embodiment, a method includes detecting a set of domain name system (DNS) requests from a device in an Internet of Things (IoT) network. In an embodiment, a method includes identifying a set of identification information associated with the set of DNS requests. In an embodiment, a method includes predicting, based on the set of identification information, a device type of the device. In an embodiment, a method includes determining, in response to predicting the device type, a network configuration setting for the device type. In an embodiment, a method includes reconfiguring, in response to determining a network configuration setting, a network configuration of the device.

Name based Internet of Things (IoT) discovery includes receiving domain name system (DNS) events. An Internet Protocol (IP) address to name mapping is built based on the DNS events. A data communication event occurring in a computer network is received. A destination IP address in the data communication event is mapped to a domain name by querying the IP address to name mapping. Whether the data communication event is associated with an IoT device is determined based on the domain name satisfying a rule.

Systems, methods, and computer program products are disclosed for dynamically determining an optimal node of an overlay network for client attachment. An optimal node can be selected from a group of potential attachment nodes in the overlay network through which a client can establish a connection to the overlay network. Network parameter training data can be determined and used to train a network optimization model. Once trained, the network optimization model can be used to determine&#x2014;based on network parameter data associated with the group of potential attachment nodes&#x2014;the optimal node for the client to attach to. If a different node than a current attachment node is determined to be a new optimal node, a connection path can be established between this new optimal node and the client, and an existing connection path between the client and the previous optimal node can be terminated or simultaneously maintained.

Client attachment to an overlay network

Embodiments are directed to a computer-implemented method of optimizing performance of a computer network. The method includes receiving a request to transmit data from a first location. For each path in a set of paths, where each path comprises a connection allowing the transmission of data from the location, a set of performance measures for the path is determined. For each path in the set of paths, an incremental cost of transmitting the requested data using the path is determined. Thereafter, the performance measures and incremental cost for each path is used to determine which path to use to transmit data. Data is then transmitted using the determined path using multipath transmission control protocol techniques (MP-TCP).

There is a method and system for capability-based resource allocation in a software-defined environment that performs the following steps (not necessarily in the following order): (i) determining a set of capability characteristics for a plurality of workload resources within a software-defined environment; (ii) determining a set of workload components for a specified workload; and (iii) identifying a set of workload resources from the plurality of workload resources to allocate to the specified workload based, at least in part, on the set of capability characteristics corresponding to each workload within the set of workload resources. A workload component of the set of workload components has a unique set of workload characteristics.

Techniques are disclosed for network distribution and provisioning of applications, such as transactional applications and parallel applications, across multiple administrative domains that ensure compliance with service level agreements. For example, a method of provisioning one or more resources in a distributed computing network to ensure compliance with a service level agreement associated with a computer application includes the following steps. Network performance is monitored between a local domain and one or more cooperating domains connected to the local domain by network paths. A present or predicted violation of the service level agreement is identified based on at least a portion of results of the monitoring step. One or more cooperating domains are selected that can effect compliance with the service level agreement by instantiating one or more network resources within at least one of the selected cooperating domains in response to a request from the local domain. Reconfiguration of the local domain is effectuated to allow the computer application to make use of the one or more newly instantiated network resources within the selected cooperating domain.

Method and apparatus for network distribution and provisioning of applications across multiple domains

The present invention provides a method and system for providing quality-of-service to VoIP over a wireless local access network by providing periodic, contention-free access to a wireless link for voice packets. This is achieved by coupling Session Initiation Protocol ('SIP') signaling for call setup with the Point Coordination Function mode of operation of the 802.11 medium access control. The result is that VoIP call signaling via SIP is tied with availability of periodic time-slots on the wireless medium. The periodic time-slots are used to guarantee contention-free access to the wireless link for voice packets. Accordingly, the present invention, in effect, merges two networking technologies: SIP-based VoIP and 802.11-based wireless LANs.

Method and apparatus for providing quality of service to VoIP over 802.11 wireless LANs

The present invention is directed to a system, including apparatus and architecture, and method for providing scheduled and ad hoc voice over IP conference services having enhanced quality and reliability. The system uses an overlay network of geographically distributed conference servers working simultaneously and collaboratively to host a given conference session. Multiple conference servers simultaneously and collaboratively perform the necessary audio mixing. The voice routing path is established and controlled within the overlay network and supports conference services across different conference service providers.

A socket set of one or more of the sockets is associated with only one of the rule sets. The rules in the rule set are used to control one or more of the packets communicated by the applications communicating over the socket(s) associated with the respective rule set. Rules can be added to the rule set, deleted from the rule set, or modified in order to classify, manipulate, and/or control the communication of the packets, e.g. to control the rate at which the packets are sent or to provide certain security functions.
