An access point device and a cellular communications system can support one or more location identifier features such that the cellular communications system can provide the access point device with one or more location parameters. The location parameters are indicative of a location of the access point device. The access point device can use the one or more location parameters to determine a location of the access point device. By knowing a location of the access point device, the access point device can determine a location for each client device connected to the access point device. In this way, a more accurate location can be determined by the access point device such that the location of any one or more client devices connected to the access point device can be provided so as to, for example, conserve resources and improve quality of service.

Location identification based on a location identification feature

A gateway device is disclosed for use with a WAN, wireless WAN, a LAN, a client device and a wireless device. The client device includes: a memory; a primary communication system; a wireless communication system; and a processor configured to execute instructions stored on the memory to cause the network device to: instruct the primary communication system to transpond the client device data between the client device and the WAN and to transpond the wireless device data between the wireless device and the WAN; detect a loss of connection with the WAN; and instruct the wireless communication system to transpond the client device data between the client device and the WAN via the wireless device and the wireless WAN.

A system and a method are provided for an external server for use with a first network device and an external network. The external server contains: a memory having a priori data stored therein, the a priori data includes a plurality of potential security attack signatures; and a processor configured to execute instructions stored on the memory to cause the external server to: monitor the first network device for actions on the first network device; identify an action on the first network device that matches one of the plurality of potential security attack signatures of the a priori data; and notify the first network device that the action is a potential security attack.

Proactive identification of potential security threats on residential gateway devices

A Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server includes a memory storing computer-readable instructions, and a processor configured to execute the computer-readable instructions to determine a media access control (MAC) address associated with a client, determine the MAC address associated with the client is a randomized MAC address, and assign an IP address the client from a DHCP IP server pool. The processor assigns an IP address to the client from a DHCP IP server pool using one of identifying, in a DHCP server table, at least one host name of the client and assigning a previously assigned IP address to the at least one host name of the client, and when the host name of the client is not available, assigning the IP address using a first lease with a first duration shorter than a default lease duration used for non-randomized MAC addresses.
