A process for coating a phosphor of formula I: A[MF]:Mnincludes combining the phosphor of formula I in particulate form with a first solution including a compound of formula II: A[MF] to form a suspension and combining a second solution with the suspension, the second solution including a precursor including an element selected from the group consisting of calcium, strontium, magnesium, yittrium, barium, scandium, lanthanum, and combinations thereof. A population of particles having a core including a phosphor of formula I and a manganese-free composite coating disposed on the core, and a lighting apparatus () including the population of particles are also presented.

Coated red line emitting phosphors

A process for synthesizing a manganese doped phosphor of formula I: A[MF]:Mnis presented. The process includes contacting a first solution with a second solution and a third solution in the presence of a plurality of inert particles. The first solution and the second solution include a composition of formula II: A[MnF]. The third solution includes a source of M, where A is Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, or combinations thereof; M is Si, Ge, Sn, Ti, Zr, Al, Ga, In, Sc, Hf, Y, La, Nb, Ta, Bi, Gd, or combinations thereof; x is an absolute value of a charge of the [MF] ion; and y is 5, 6 or 7.

Processes for synthesizing red-emitting phosphors and related red-emitting phosphors

A process for synthesizing a Mndoped phosphor of formula I by electrolysis is presented. The process includes electrolyzing a reaction solution comprising a source of manganese, a source of M and a source of A. One aspect relates to a phosphor composition produced by the process. A lighting apparatus including the phosphor composition is also provided. A[MF]:Mn(I) where, A is Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, or a combination thereof; M is Si, Ge, Sn, Ti, Zr, Al, Ga, In, Sc, Hf, Y, La, Nb, Ta, Bi, Gd, or a combination thereof; x is the absolute value of the charge of the [MF] ion; and y is 5, 6 or 7.

Red-emitting phosphors, processes and devices

A lighting apparatus includes an LED light source radiationally coupled to a composite material including a phosphor of formula I and a thermally conductive material dispersed in at least a portion of a binder material. The thermally conductive material includes a material selected from the group consisting of indium oxide, tin oxide, indium tin oxide, calcium oxide, barium oxide, strontium oxide, aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide, barium hydroxide, strontium hydroxide, zinc hydroxide, aluminum phosphate, magnesium phosphate, calcium phosphate, barium phosphate, strontium phosphate, diamond, graphene, polyethylene nanofibers, carbon nanotubes, silver metal nanoparticles, copper metal nanoparticles, gold metal nanoparticles, aluminum metal nanoparticles, boron nitride, silicon nitride, an alkali metal halide, calcium fluoride, magnesium fluoride, a compound of formula II, and combinations thereof.

Composite materials having red emitting phosphors

Methods for fabricating coated semiconductor elements are presented. The methods include the steps of combining a phosphor of formula I and a polymer binder to form a composite material, providing a semiconductor wafer including InGaAlN, wherein 0&#x2264;i; 0&#x2264;j; 0&#x2264;k, and a sum of i, j and k is equal to 1, coating the composite material on a surface of the semiconductor wafer to form a coated semiconductor wafer, and dicing the coated semiconductor wafer using a cutting fluid apparatus to form one or more coated semiconductor elements. A cutting fluid of the cutting fluid apparatus includes a C-Calcohol, a C-Cketone, a C-Cacetate compound, acetic acid, oleic acid, carboxylic acid, a source of A, silicic acid, or a combination thereof.

Methods for fabricating devices containing red line emitting phosphors

An article including a substrate and a plurality of coatings disposed on the substrate is presented. The plurality of coatings includes a thermal barrier coating disposed on the substrate; and a protective coating including a calcium-magnesium-aluminum-silicon-oxide (CMAS)-reactive material disposed on the thermal barrier coating. The CMAS-reactive material includes an NZP-type material. The CMAS-reactive material is present in the plurality of coatings in an effective amount to react with a CMAS composition at an operating temperature of the thermal barrier coating, thereby forming a reaction product having one or both of melting temperature and viscosity greater than that of the CMAS composition. A method of making the article and a related turbine engine component are also presented.

Article and method of making thereof

Articles having coatings that are resistant to high temperature degradation are described, along with methods for making such articles. The article comprises a coating disposed on a substrate. The coating comprises a plurality of elongated surface-connected voids. The article further includes a protective agent disposed within at least some of the voids of the coating; the protective agent comprises a substance capable of chemically reacting with liquid nominal CMAS to form a solid crystalline product outside the crystallization field of said nominal CMAS. This solid crystalline product has a melting temperature greater than about 1200 degrees Celsius. The method generally includes disposing the protective agent noted above within the surface connected voids of the coating at an effective concentration to substantially prevent incursion of CMAS materials into the voids in which the protective agent is disposed.

Articles for high temperature service and method for making

A phosphor material is presented that includes a blend of a first phosphor, a second phosphor and a third phosphor. The first phosphor includes a composition having a general formula of REMAScSiGeO:Cewherein RE is selected from a lanthanide ion or Y, where M is selected from Mg, Ca, Sr or Ba, A is selected from Mg or Zn and where 0&#x2266;y&#x2266;2, 2.5&#x2266;n&#x2266;3.5, 0&#x2266;w&#x2266;1, and &#x2212;1.5&#x2266;&#x3b4;&#x2266;1.5. The second phosphor includes a complex fluoride doped with manganese (Mn), and the third phosphor include a phosphor composition having an emission peak in a range from about 520 nanometers to about 680 nanometers. A lighting apparatus including such a phosphor material is also presented. The light apparatus includes a light source in addition to the phosphor material.

Phosphor materials and related devices

Processes for producing particles of rare earth-containing phosphor materials, in which the particles have a core-shell structure and the shell has a lower rare earth content than the core. Such a process may include contacting a core particle with a precursor comprising Na(La,Ce,Tb)POto form a mixture, and then heating the mixture to a temperature sufficient to decompose the Na(La,Ce,Tb)POto evolve and melt an NaPOflux and initiate deposition of a (La,Ce,Tb)POshell on each core particle in the presence of the molten NaPOflux.

Process of forming phosphor particles with core shell structures

Phosphor particles, methods for their use to produce fluorescent lamps, and fluorescent lamps that make use of such particles. Such a phosphor particle has a core surrounded by a shell, and the shell contains GdMgBOdoped (activated) with at least terbium ions as a rare earth-containing phosphor composition that absorbs ultraviolet photons to emit green-spectrum light. The core is formed of a mineral material that is chemically compatible with the rare earth-containing phosphor composition of the shell, but does not contain intentional additions of terbium.

Phosphor materials, fluorescent lamps provided therewith, and methods therefor

A method of making a core-shell phosphor is provided. The method comprises mixing a lanthanum phosphate (LaPO) core with a shell precursor mixture comprising at least one compound of La, at least one compound of Ce, and at least one compound of Tb to form a core+shell precursor mixture, heating the core+shell precursor mixture to a temperature in a range from about 900&#xb0; C. to about 1200&#xb0; C. with an inorganic flux material in presence of a reductant to provide a heated core+shell precursor mixture, cooling the heated core+shell precursor mixture to ambient temperature to provide a product core-shell phosphor dispersed in the inorganic flux material; and separating the product core-shell phosphor from the inorganic flux material.

Core shell phosphor and method of making the same

A phosphor material is presented that includes a blend of a first phosphor, a second phosphor and a third phosphor. The first phosphor includes a composition having a general formula of ((SrM)ACe)(AlSi)OF, wherein 0&#x3c;x&#x2266;0.10, 0&#x2266;y&#x2266;0.5, 0&#x2266;z&#x2266;0.5, 0&#x2266;w&#x2266;x, A comprises Li, Na, K, or Rb; and M comprises Ca, Ba, Mg, Zn, or Sn. The second phosphor includes a complex fluoride doped with manganese (Mn), and the third phosphor include a phosphor composition having an emission peak in a range from about 520 nanometers to about 680 nanometers. A lighting apparatus including such a phosphor material is also presented. The light apparatus includes a light source in addition to the phosphor material.

A sealing glass composition includes from about 10 molar percent to about 30 molar percent barium oxide, from about 15 molar percent to about 30 molar percent aluminum oxide, from about 40 molar percent to about 60 molar percent boron oxide and from about 1 molar percent to about 20 molar percent yttrium oxide. Methods for preparing the sealing glass and a sodium battery cell are also provided.

Sealing glass composition and article

A method of recovering a rare earth constituent from a phosphor is presented. The method can include a number of steps (a) to (d). In step (a), the phosphor is fired with an alkali material under conditions sufficient to decompose the phosphor into a mixture of oxides. A residue containing rare earth oxides is extracted from the mixture in step (b). In step (c), the residue is treated to obtain a solution, which comprises rare earth constituents in salt form. Rare earth constituents are separated from the solution in step (d).

Rare earth recovery from fluorescent material and associated method

A sealing glass for an energy storage device is provided. The sealing glass includes silicon dioxide, boron oxide, aluminum oxide, sodium oxide and zirconium oxide. Methods for preparing the sealing glass and the energy storage device incorporating the sealing glass are also provided.
