A spark plug for an internal combustion engine, including: a center electrode having a first noble metal pin of a first diameter mounted thereon, and a ground electrode having a second noble metal pin of a second diameter mounted thereon, the noble metal pins of the center electrode and of the ground electrode being mutually opposed at the end faces thereof; and the first diameter of the first noble metal pin of the center electrode being larger than the second diameter of the second noble metal pin of the ground electrode.

A spark plug is described having a partially cylindrical insulator element and a housing surrounding the insulator element on the side of a base part. The insulator element and the housing are connected with one another by at least one material bond and/or one friction-lock connection aligned in the radial direction. A compact spark plug can be produced using this type of connection. In particular, the diameter of the spark plug is smaller than the diameter of known spark plugs having the same characteristics.

A spark plug for internal combustion engines ensures the formation of two spark paths. These two spark paths are a pure air spark which jumps over from electrode to electrode, and a creepage spark which emerges from the central electrode, creeps along the insulator and then jumps over at the point at the smallest distance between the insulator and the earth electrode. The spark plug includes a cylindrical metal tube which forms a housing and in which the central electrode is arranged, surrounded centrally by an insulator. The earth electrodes mounted on the metal tube are partially bent so that an obtuse bending angle of the bent-over part with respect to the part of the earth electrode which extends in the direction of the rotationally symmetrical longitudinal axis is produced.

A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines having a hydraulic control mechanism includes a control cylinder with a control piston actuating a control member, a hydraulic work chamber and one switching valve each for an input and an output controlled by a valve control unit. The inflow to and return from the work chamber is provided with the control valves in order to shut down the engine upon a shutoff or a malfunction in the hydraulic control mechanism. The fuel feed pump is electrically driven, and the hydraulic work chamber communicates with the fuel tank via a relief device. The supply of current to the valve control unit and the feed pump is switched on and off, along with the rest of the current supply to the engine, via a driving switch. Additionally, the valve control unit is embodied such that upon the appearance of a persistent control deviation of the control member, the valve control unit shuts off the feed pump. The relief device includes various variant embodiments operative upon shutoff of the current supply or the occurrence of a malfunction and enables the restoration of the control mechanism to its zero or stopping position.

A fuel injection apparatus which the termination of the effective pump supply stroke is effected by exposing a relief conduit with the aid of a valve having for instance a control edge, whereupon a highly pressurized fuel flows out via the relief conduit and is directed into a pressure chamber defined by a rear face of a pressure valve closing member. The pressure valve closing member is located in a connection with a fuel injection line that leads from the pump work chamber to the fuel injection valve and is acted upon by a valve spring to effect closing of this injection line. The impact of fuel that reaches the pressure chamber via the releif conduit reinforces a fast closure of the pressure valve closing member at the end of injection, which leads to an abrupt termination of an injection cycle. In addition, or altenatively, the fuel injection valve closing member can also be acted upon by the impact of fuel diversion.

A fuel injection nozzle for internal combustion engines is proposed, which includes a valve needle stressed by a closing spring and a damping device to partially damp the opening movement of the valve needle. The damping is effected in accordance with the stroke frequency, the stroke length of the valve needle, or both, or the quantity of fuel throughput per injection cycle, and the damping effect is preferably variable automatically by shifting the time of the onset of damping relative to the onset of injection. As a result, an adaptation of the damping effect to the operating state of the engine at a particular time can be attained which substantially meets the ideal parameters for such damping.

The injection pump has a pump piston driven with a constant stroke which pumps fuel at injection pressure to an injection nozzle so long as an electrically actuated overflow valve blocks the flow of the fuel overflowing via an overflow conduit to a low-pressure chamber. The overflow valve is a needle valve, the valve needle of which, opening inward toward a pressure chamber that can be placed under injection pressure, by means of a conical closing surface radially defining a needle tip controls a valve seat that widens conically toward the pressure chamber. The cone angle of the closing surface is larger than the cone angle of the associated valve seat and the closing surface forms a sealing edge, the diameter of which is equal to or only slightly smaller than the guide diameter of the guide shank on the valve member. In a preferred embodiment, the needle tip of the valve member has an external contour on its end, adjacent to the closing surface, which directs the fuel flow and reinforces the opening movement. The injection pump is particularly suitable for high-pressure injection in Diesel engines, in order to attain an exact electrical control of the supply onset and supply quantity, if a reservoir chamber defined by a deflecting piston is connected to a high-pressure chamber that includes the pump work chamber.

A fuel injection nozzle for internal combustion engines, having an outwardly opening valve needle, which is connected with a piston upon which a damping cap is placed, which is supported on a shoulder integral with the housing. In the damping cap, a damping chamber is formed, which communicates via a throttle conduit with the flow path of the fuel. The diameter of the piston is smaller than the cross section enclosed by the valve seat, as a result of which an annular shoulder is attained, on which the unthrottled fuel pressure acts upon the valve needle in the opening direction. This disposition has the advantage that at lower rpm and smaller fuel quantities, the valve needle can be effectively braked even up to relatively long needle strokes, without the injection duration becoming overly long at higher rpm.

A fuel injection nozzle for internal combustion engines, having a valve needle loaded with a closing spring and having a damping device which damps the end stroke (h.sub.2), leading into the fully open position of the valve needle, in accordance with the number of strokes and/or stroke length of the valve needle or with the quantity of fuel put through per injection event. The valve needle is coupled with a second damping device, which in partial-load and full-load operation also, at least intermittently, damps the initial stroke (h.sub.1), leading out of the closing position, of the valve needle. As a result it is attained that for a wide range of the performance graph, the ratio of the injection quantity to the duration of injection can be optimized in terms of the fuel consumption and emission of toxic substances, without having to accept increased combustion noise in the critical ranges.
