A slide rail with a guide groove and a contact side for a device for a door equipped with a slide rail door drive mechanism. A slide which is effectively connected to the door drive mechanism is mounted so that it can move axially in the guide groove. The door area has at least one sensor which is effectively connected to the door device and scans the danger zone of the range of motion of the door. The slide rail has a space adjacent to the guide groove which holds the slide. The space has at least one sensor which is used to monitor the danger zone of the door. The space can be located below, in front of or behind the guide groove.

A door closer actuated by an eccentric cam plate includes a one-piece piston that is displaced axially by the rotation of the eccentric cam plate. The one-piece piston includes a damping piston portion located axially on one side of the eccentric cam plate and a spring support element located on the opposite side of the eccentric cam plate. The one-piece piston incorporates in a unitary piece both functions of a separate damping piston and spring support element to increase the relative efficiency of the door closer.

The slide is connected to an arm of the door closer which arm moves the slide along the channel into contact with the detent which holds the door open once the detent and the slide have engaged with one another.

A door closer wherein a housing defines a fluid-containing space for a reciprocable damping piston which divides the space into a first and a second compartment. The piston carries a check valve which is closed during movement of the piston in a first direction while the door panel is being opened and which is open when the piston moves in the opposite direction. A channel is provided in the housing to permit fluid to flow from the first compartment into the second compartment during a first stage of movement of the piston in the first direction. The check valve has a body which defines a passage for the flow of fluid between the compartments and is surrounded by a seat having one or more grooves which are only partially overlapped by a spherical or non-spherical valving element during movement of the piston in the first direction to thus establish a relatively small path for the flow of fluid between the compartments, at least during a second stage of movement of the piston in the first direction, such second stage following the first stage. Springs in that compartment from which fluid is expelled during movement of the piston in the first direction oppose such movement of the piston, and an additional spring can be provided to bias the valving element against its seat.

Door closer

A door closer wherein a housing defines a fluid-containing space and rotatably supports a shaft which is articulately connected with a pivotable door panel. A piston in the housing divides the space into a chamber and a compartment and has a toothed rack which mates with a pinion on the shaft so that the piston moves in the housing in response to rotation of the shaft as a result of pivoting of the door panel and vice versa. One or more springs in the chamber bias the piston in a direction to pivot the door panel toward closed position. A channel in the housing establishes communication between the chamber and the compartment during an initial stage of movement of the door panel from closed position at which time the piston moves in a direction to reduce the volume of the chamber. A bypass in the piston provides a path for the flow of fluid from the chamber into the compartment during a following stage of pivoting of the door panel toward open position, and the cross-sectional area of such path increases gradually in a direction from the chamber toward the compartment. The bypass can be provided in the peripheral surface of the piston or in the peripheral surface of the body of a check valve which is installed in the piston and serves to permit the fluid to flow from the compartment into the chamber during pivoting of the door panel toward closed position.

A hydraulically controlled door closer in which a spring cooperating with a piston reciprocatable in a fluid filled bore urges a closer shaft operatively connected to the piston to a position in which a door connected to the closer shaft is closer. The spring is tensioned during turning of the closer shaft in a door opening direction and may be releasably held in the tensioned condition by an additional piston located between one end of the spring and the first-mentioned piston and provided with a first passage therethrough in which a one-way valve is located in a second passage which may be closed and opened by an electromagnetically operated valve.

An automatic door closer constructed for releasably holding a door in a predetermined partly open position mainly comprises a piston arranged in a cylinder bore of a housing and operatively connected to a closer shaft mounted in the housing turnable about an axis substantially normal to that of the cylindrical bore so that the piston will be reciprocated in the bore during turning of a door connected to the closer shaft. The piston divides the bore in the housing in two compartments filled with fluid and a coil compression spring in one of the compartments biases the piston to an end position corresponding to the closed position of the door. The piston is provided with two passages therethrough, in one of which a one-way valve is arranged permitting flow of fluid only from the one compartment into the other during movement of the piston in door opening direction. The other passage is closed when the door reaches a predetermined partly open position preventing thereby fluid flow from the other compartment into the one compartment so that the door is held in this partly open position. The elements for closing the other passage comprise a valve member of a holding valve biased by a spring to a closed position so that the door may be moved in closing direction from the partly open position in which it is held only by application of an outer force applied thereto overcoming the biasing force of the spring acting on the valve member.

A door closer includes a cylinder-and-piston arrangement in which the piston is received in the cylinder for displacement between a rest position corresponding to a closed position of the door, and an end position corresponding to the fully open position of the door, through an intermediate position corresponding to a partly opened position of the door. The piston subdivides the interior of the cylinder into at least two compartments which are in communication with one another via at least two passages one of which is closable in any position of the piston by means of an electromagnetically operated valve, the other passage being open when the piston is between the rest and the intermediate position and closed when the piston is between the intermediate and the end position. A spring biases the piston toward the rest position so that, when the electromagnetically operated valve is opened, the spring will cause the door to close regardless of its position, while the spring will also close the door regardless of whether the electromagnetically operated valve is closed or opened, from any position between the above-mentioned partially open position of the door and the closed position of the door, due to the flow of a damping fluid between the two compartments through the other passage. The valve which closes and opens the other passage may be constructed as an elongated pin mounted on the cylinder and extending into the other passage, the pin having a first portion received in the other passage with clearance between the rest and the intermediate position of the piston, and a second portion sealingly received in the passage between the intermediate and the end position of the piston. The first and second portions may merge with one another via a conical portion which determines the size of the clearance when at least partially received in the other passage. The piston may have two piston heads each delimiting one of the compartments and connected with one another via a toothed rack under the formation of a third compartment between the two piston heads. A pinion of a door-closing linkage then meshes with the toothed rack. Additional passages and additional valves in such passages may be provided which permit overriding of the action of the electromagnetically operated valve by exerting force on the door, and the increase in the degree of opening of the door.
