An apparatus for a wired communication link is provided. The apparatus includes transmit circuitry for transmitting downstream data over the wired communication link during a frame for full duplex data transmission. The frame comprises a first subframe and a second subframe for downstream data transmission. The first subframe coincides in time with a third subframe of the frame for upstream data transmission, wherein the second subframe coincides in time with a fourth subframe of the frame for upstream data transmission. The first subframe and the fourth subframe are priority subframes. The second subframe and the third subframe are non-priority subframes. Each of the first subframe and the fourth subframes comprises a respective discontinuous operation interval.

Techniques discussed herein can facilitate handshake procedures for Point-to-Multipoint (P2MP) communication in connection with various DSL (Direct Subscriber Line) technologies. Various embodiments can employ different methods of separation of signaling to arrange P2MP handshake procedures based on existing Point-to-Point (P2P) handshake procedures. Example embodiments can employ one of separation in frequency, separation in time, or separation in transmission power level.

Embodiments related to retransmission in a communication system are described and depicted. In one embodiment, a retransmission entity repeats a transmission of data transfer unit by the device after a predetermined number of other transmitted data transfer units has been transmitted. The retransmission entity may also determine whether a measure for a time period since the first transmission of the data transfer unit by the device has exceeded a predetermined threshold and to provide a final transmission of the data transfer unit based on the determining that the measure for the time period has exceeded the predetermined threshold.

Method and device for retransmission

Embodiments related to retransmission in a communication system are described and depicted. In one embodiment, a retransmission entity repeats a transmission of a data transfer unit by the device after a predetermined number of other transmitted data transfer units has been transmitted. The retransmission entity may also determine whether a measure for a time period since the first transmission of the data transfer unit by the device has exceeded a predetermined threshold and to provide a final transmission of the data transfer unit based on the determining that the measure for the time period has exceeded the predetermined threshold.

Within a communication system that includes multiple communication channels, a low-power mode of operation and a higher-power mode of operation are provided. Each channel is allocated to one of several groups, based on criteria such as whether power is allocated to that channel in low power mode, and whether power was allocated to that channel in a previous high power mode. Initial power levels for each channel for each mode are approximated using an interpolation rule known to both the receive and the transmitter. The system switches between modes according to a PMD pre-defined schedule. When a new power mode begins, the receiver measures signal power received on each channel and then transmits corrective information sufficient to allow adaptation of power levels to achieve PMD pre-defined levels of received power.

A transceiver and associated method an impulse noise monitoring (INM) tool configured to identify a data stream that includes i) data transmission units (DTUs) communicating data symbols, ii) non-data symbols, and iii) non-transmission time. The INM tool is configured to ascertain an impulse noise (IN) event of the incoming data stream by evaluating a count, a frequency, a pattern, a group, or a sequence of corrupted DTUs and selected non-data symbols or non-transmission time that are proximate in time to the corrupted DTUs.

Method of impulse noise monitoring for time division duplexing systems

A transceiver associated with a wireline communication system is disclosed. The transceiver comprises one or more processors configured to associate a quality of service (QoS) grade tag to each data packet of a plurality of data packets to be transmitted and assemble a data transfer unit (DTU) comprising one or more or a part of a data packet of the plurality of data packets, wherein the one or more or the part of the data packet are encapsulated into a plurality of DTU frames within the DTU. The one or more processors is further configured to associate a highest DTU tag to the assembled DTU, wherein the highest DTU tag is indicative of a highest QoS grade associated with the DTU frames of the assembled DTU; and determine a schedule for transmission or retransmission of the assembled DTU, based on the highest DTU tag of the assembled DTU.
