A temperature radiator, which comprises an emission surface emitting a thermal radiation, is provided with a radiation converter to which a laser beam is irradiated. The radiation converter comprises a micro-structured receiving surface and a micro-structured emission surface. These two surfaces are surrounded by a smooth boundary. The laser radiation is absorbed at the receiving surface and converted into thermal radiation which is emitted in a uniformly distributed manner at the emission surface.

The valve has a chamber (11) in a housing (10), wherein a valve seat (17) closed by a valve body (19) is arranged. The valve seat (17) is abruptly moved by an actuator (15), the valve body (19) not being able to follow due to its inertia and the valve seat (17) being opened a little. Thereafter, the valve body (19) hits a plunger (20) moved by the actuator (15) together with the valve seat (17). By this impact, the valve body (19) is moved fully off from the valve seat (17) so that the outflow opening (13) is cleared entirely. Then, the flow drives the valve body (19) back into the closed position. Using this valve, short switching periods with a large valve opening degree may be achieved.

It is a problem of pyrometric temperature measuring of melts in a vacuum that the material of the melt will be deposited on mirrors, windows and other optical devices so that the radiation will be screened more and more effectively, the closer it comes to the pyrometer. In order to avoid vapor desposition in the path of radiation, a grating arrangement is provided between the melt and the pyrometer, which focusses the incoming radiation and concentrates it onto the pyrometer. The grating arrangement is partly permeable to the molecules of the melt material. The direct path between the melt and the pyrometer is blocked by a screen. In this way, vapor deposition on the window prefixed to the pyrometer are avoided, while the radiation can reach the pyrometer.

For positioning a liquid sample which is held together by surface tension to form a drop, a plurality of lances is provided that are directed onto the sample from different spatial directions. Sintered bodies are provided on the lances, from which gas escapes. The escaping gas prevents a contact between the sintered bodies and the sample. The lances are positioned so close to the sample that indentations are formed in the latter.

Pyrometric temperature measurement of molten masses arranged in a vacuum involve the problem that the material of the molten mass deposits on mirrors, windows and other optical means so that the radiation, on its way to the pyrometer, is ever more absorbed. For preventing vapor depositions in the path of radiation, a matter filter having a rotating vane wheel is arranged between the container for the molten mass and the pyrometer. The radiation passes through the gaps between the vanes. Molecules of the molten material are caught by the vanes. Accordingly, a mirror behind the matter filter is kept free of undesired vaporization and transmits radiation to the pyrometer.

The acceleration pick-up device is provided with an elastic member to which an inert body is attached. Upon occurrence of an accelerative force, the elastic member is deformed. For measuring the absolute value of the acceleration, a calibration can be performed. In this calibration process, a measuring value of the acceleration is obtained on the basis of the deflection of the inert body. Subsequently, the inert body is loaded with a foreign medium so that its mass is changed, and then a further measuring value is obtained. In further measurement processes, the absolute acceleration value can be calculated from the differences of the masses and the measuring values.

The acceleration sensor has an elastic member (11) to which an inertial body (12) is attached. Upon the occurrence of an acceleration force, the elastic member (11) is deformed. In order to measure the absolute value of the acceleration, a calibration may be performed. In such calibration, a measuring value of the acceleration is obtained from the excursion of the inertial body (12) at a given density of the medium surrounding the inertial body. Subsequently, a second measuring of the same acceleration is taken at a varied density of the gas surrounding the inertial body, thereby obtaining a second measuring value. In further measurements, the absolute value of the acceleration may be calculated from the differences between the gas densities and the measured values.

Method for calibrating an acceleration sensor

A separating wall having a valve opening is disposed between a chamber holding a high pressure and a chamber holding a low pressure. The valve seat is closed by a ball acting as a valve body. For a quick opening of the valve, an actuating member imparts a lateral impact to the ball, thereby lifting the ball off the valve seat. Setting the ball back onto the valve seat is effected under the influence of the gas flow passing through the valve opening. The valve has extremely short switching times and allows for a high repetition frequency.
