Heating system for regenerative coke ovens

Coking system, wherein the coking blends particularly based on hard coal, are fed batchwise to a reactor (1), which is heated indirectly by heat recovery in regenerators (I, II) or recuperators, whereby the reactor is built as a high-capacity coking reactor (100), several high-capacity coking reactors are combined to form a reactor block and the high-capacity coking reactors are built as mutually independent modules, whereby each module can be operated or optionally replaced independently of the neighboring modules, with little or no impairment of the operation of the neighboring modules. The individual reactors are independently operatable in terms of statics and heat supply. The regenerators, or recuperators (I, II, R, R') can be arranged laterally or underneath the reactor chamber. Neighboring reactors can have a common intermediate wall (2). The reactor chambers have a width of at least 0.7 m, a height of at least 8.5 m and a length of at least 18 m.

Coking reactor

A method of monitoring the reversal system of coke oven batteries comprises monitoring the position of the air valves, waste heat discs, and gas cocks in each of the coke ovens of a battery, measuring and centrally registering the temperatures and/or flow rates of the fluids supplied into and discharged from the oven, namely of combustion air, gases and waste gases, comparing the measured values with the desired values corresponding to the position of the system elements, and upon an undue deviation, signals for carrying out safety measures, such as actuating a gas deficiency safety, are automatically delivered. Also measured may be the oil pressure in the lines for supplying the hydraulic signals actuating the reversal mechanism, with again a release of alarm signals. A device for monitoring the reversal system includes an apparatus connected to the valves for shifting all of the valves between an operating position in one characteristic way to an operating condition in another characteristic way. Also means are provided for sensing either the temperature of pressure in the operating system lines which is connected to the means for shifting the operation from one mode to another after the measured values vary beyond a predetermined operation pattern.

Method for monitoring the reversal system of coke oven batteries

A heating system for regenerative coke oven batteries having a plurality of coke oven chambers separated by heating walls and a plurality of regenerators extending the length of the coke oven for preheating air and cooling hot waste gases comprises a plurality of spaced heating ducts extending upwardly in the heating walls which are grouped into two adjacent pairs of heating ducts. The ducts in each group of four heating ducts are separated by first and second binder walls with the first binder walls carrying one binder duct for supplying air and discharging hot waste to and from adjacent heat ducts in one of the pairs in the group. The second wall is either provided with no heating ducts or a pair of heating ducts. A horizontal channel connects the tops of all four heating ducts in each group and the lower end of each heating duct is provided with a rich gas supply nozzle.

Heating system for regenerative coke oven batteries

A device for separating gases and solids, particularly coal dust, during the carbonization of coal, particularly predried and preheated fine coal in coke ovens arranged in a battery which includes a standpipe extending upwardly from the top of the battery having a bend extending from the top of the standpipe downwardly into a collecting main, comprises, a vertically extending standpipe which extends upwardly from the top of the battery and has a bend at the top thereof extending outwardly and downwardly from the top and which includes a longitudinally extending collecting main connected into the lower end of the bend with a solids discharge line overlying the bend and extending substantially parallel to the collecting main. The solids matter discharge line includes a connection extending downwardly into the bend. Means are provided for spraying a liquid into the bend over the collecting line and the solids matter discharge line includes a shutoff control in the connection to the bend. Exhauster means are connected to the solids matter discharge line for exhausting the gases enriched with the solids to a combustion furnace where they are burned. The combustion furnace may be one which heats water to form steam which is supplied back into the collecting line. Some of the solids which are removed are directed to a cyclone separator where coal dust is separated therefrom and the gas is returned to the collecting line. With the method of the invention, the bend is selectively connected to the solids matter discharge line so that gases containing solids are withdrawn therefrom and part of them are directed to a separator to remove the coal dust solids and to return the gases to the collecting main and other parts are directed to the furnace for burning therein.

A method reducing fine dust emission during the time that predried and preheated coal is charged into coke ovens comprises directing wet coal to be carbonized into direct contact with a hot process gas so that the coal is transported dry and heated, directing the hot process gas with the heated coal to a plurality of different separators in succession with the first separator being set to separate only around from 80 to 90% of the total amount of the coal and without separating the fine dust, and a subsequent separator separate the remaining amount of the solid matter including the fine dust, compacting the dust removed from all of the separators and mixing them together, and charging the compacted mixed dust into the coke oven. The apparatus for effecting the invention includes a material separator which is designed as a gravity separator or gravity sifter which is arranged to discharge into a connection between the mixed and compacted dust separator in separate additional separators.

Method and apparatus for reducing fine dust emission while charging

A method of preparing and delivering coal to a coking plant, comprises, conveying the coal to the plant on a moving conveyor while an inert combustion gas is directed over the coal being conveyed. The combustion gas is generated by burning a fuel with air to produce a substantially inert combustion gas which is passed over the coal during its conveying and, thereafter, passed through a cooler for removing the moisture which has been picked up from the coal by the gas. The heating and predrying inert gases are advantageously generated by the direct combustion of air and fuel which are passed through flash dryer tubes and one or more separate separator systems and then delivered into a conveyor pipeline through which the coal is conveyed. A portion of the gases which are generated are also directed with a return gas to a filter for removal of any coal therefrom and to a cooler for removing the moisture picked up from the coal and then back into the stream for delivery to the conveyor for the coal. The inert gas may also be a gas which is circulated in heat exchange relationship with combustion gases which are generated by a combustion of the coal itself. In such a system, a portion of the combustion gases generated are also passed through a condenser or cooler and the cooled and dried waste gases are circulated over the coal being conveyed to the coking oven or its bunkers.

Method of operating a coal predrying and heating plant in connection

A device for charging coke ovens of a horizontally disposed coke oven battery through charging chute in the roof of each coke oven which is openable at its top and from a coal supply which includes a circulating conveyor for circulating the coal in a path over the roof comprises a transfer conveyor housing having a conveyor operable therein. The transfer conveyor housing is pivotally mounted, and it includes one end with a coal receiving connection which is alignable with a connectable coal transferring opening of the conveyor so as to receive coal therefrom. The other end of the transfer conveyor housing is provided with a connection with may be aligned over an opening of the coke oven for supplying coal into the receiving chute thereof. For this purpose the transfer conveyor housing is pivotally mounted for pivotal movement about a horizontal axis, and it is pivoted so as to bring the connection to the coal transferring opening of the conveyor into alignment below the coal transferring opening and engage with an extension of the chute defining the opening. In addition at the same time, the opposite end is aligned over the coal receiving chute of the oven and it is directed downwardly into engagement therewith so as to define a fuel path between the conveyor through the charging chute.

Coke oven coal charging device

A coke oven battery includes a plurality of coke ovens heated during certain time intervals and the heat supply being reduced subsequent to these time intervals. First valve means controls the flow of combustion air for the ovens and second valve means controls the flow of waste gases recovered from the ovens and recycled back to the ovens. A first primary activating means activates the first and second valve means. Third valve means controls the flow of decarbonizing air for the ovens and a second primary activating means activates the third valve means. Fourth valve means controls the pressure in the ovens and first auxiliary activating means activates the fourth valve means. Fifth valve means controls the flow of fuel for the ovens and second auxiliary activating means activates the fifth valve means. The coke ovens may be arranged in groups so that the coking conditions at any time are the same for all ovens of a given group. The first auxiliary activating means includes a plurality of first auxiliary control linkages each of which is associated with one of the groups while the second auxiliary activating means includes a plurality of second auxiliary control linkages each of which is associated with one of the groups. Automatic coupling means may couple the first primary activating means with the first auxiliary activating means and couple the second primary activating means with the second auxiliary activating means. This permits the primary activating means and the respective auxiliary activating means to be driven as units when both the primary activating means and the auxiliary activating means must be operative.

Coke oven battery with control means for changing the heat supply

A cokable substance such as coal is admitted into a coking chamber. A quantity of heat which is sufficient to cause coking of the cokable substance is supplied to the chamber during preselected time intervals within the coking period in which coking of the cokable substance progresses in response to the supply of heat. On the other hand, during other time intervals within the coking period in which coking of the cokable substance is essentially unaffected by the supply of heat, the quantity of heat supplied to the chamber is reduced to a level below that required to sustain coking of the cokable substance during the preselected time intervals. In this manner, savings in energy may be realized. The supply of heat to the chamber during those time intervals in which coking of the cokable substance is unaffected by the supply of heat may be discontinued completely.
