The shovel for an excavator has teeth arranged at a distance apart from one another on its digging edge. The areas of the edge of the shovel between the teeth are equipped with caps that are relatively resistant to wear and are put on in such a manner that they can be replaced, and have a short hook-like projection which engages under the edge of the shovel and a long leg which fits over the edge of the shovel. Secured to the upper surface of the shovel between the teeth of the shovel are retaining pieces which can fit together with the legs of the caps when the caps are put onto the edge of the shovel and which cooperate with them in an interengaging manner to prevent the legs of the caps from being lifted off from the upper surface of the shovel. Detachable securing members hold the legs of the caps and the retaining pieces together in the direction in which they can be fit together.

Articulation of an excavator shovel at a pivot point arranged at the free end of the stick. A cap is mounted on the free end of the stick, the cap facing the rear wall of the shovel. The surface of the cap defines a radius with a center point at the pivot point of the shovel. A scraper plate with a width corresponding to the width of the stick on the rear wall of the shovel facing the stick is arranged parallel to the upper edge of the bearing bracket and cooperates with the cap so that only a clearance which assures free passage is present between the cap and the scraper plate. The imaginary extension of the scraper plate intersects the radius of the cap at a point located on the upper flange of the stick.

Coupling of an excavator shovel

A retainer for the releaseable securing of a tooth tip of a digger tooth on a holder, the tooth tip being provided with a sleeve, and the holder engaging in the sleeve and being rigidly connected with the digger edge of the shovel bucket. The retainer is arranged in a holder opening extending parallel to the cutter edge of the tooth tip and in the longitudinal center line of the tooth, the retainer being made of two metal formed parts and a rubber element arranged between the two metal formed parts, the rubber element being stressed on compression. The retainer in the installed assembled condition on one side comes into contact on the surfaces of the tooth tip openings which face toward the cutter edge and on the other side comes into engagement on the surfaces of a recess arranged in the holder which face away from the cutter edge. The metal formed part which faces toward the cutter edge and which is open on the longitudinal sides and has stays on the face sides is disposed floating between the legs of the other U-shaped metal formed part. The latter being open on the longitudinal sides, facing the digging edge of the shovel bucket. The rubber element which connects the two metal formed parts is protected against a stress exceeding its fatigue strength in that the width of the gap between the face surface of the leg of that metal formed part which faces the digging edge of the shovel bucket and the inner wall of the holder or sleeve opening is smaller than the allowable compression of the spring system or the ride clearance which is permitted for maintaining the endurance or fatigue strength of the rubber element. The metal formed part which faces the cutter edge is provided on its outer surface with cams which serve for securing the retainer against falling out during stressing of the tooth tip.

Retainer for releasably securing a tooth tip of a digger tooth

A holding construction for a detachable connection of a tooth tip having a sleeve-shaped section and a cutting edge to a holder connected to a digging implement, according to which the holder is provided with a holder opening having a somewhat trapezoidal cross section and being substantially parallel to the cutting edge while the longitudinal central plane of the holder opening substantially coincides with the longitudinal central plane of the holder. The tooth tip forming a part of a dredge tooth is connected to the holder by a connecting element arranged in the holder opening and extending parallel to the cutting edge of the digging implement and located in the central longitudinal plane of the holder. The connecting element detachably arranged in the sleeve-shaped section comprises a wider and a narrower metal part and a compressible elastomeric element, e.g. a rubber element, interposed between the two metal parts.
