A directional coupler includes an outer cavity and first and second striplines deployed within the outer cavity such that transverse electromagnetic (TEM) mode signals are coupled between first portions of the first stripline and the second stripline. The directional coupler also includes first and second electrically and thermally conductive elements connecting the first and second striplines, respectively, to the outer cavity.

Directional coupler

A conductor is formed of a first portion to define a first area in a plane that is substantially perpendicular to a first magnetic field direction in a first cavity resonator and a second portion to define a second area in a plane that is substantially perpendicular to a second magnetic field direction in a second cavity resonator. Inductive current generated in the first portion flows in substantially the same direction as current in the second portion. The conductor may be deployed in an aperture between the first and second cavity resonators to couple or cross-couple the first and second cavity resonators. The conductor may also be deployed to couple or cross-couple cavity resonators in a filter implemented in a broadcast- or base station.

Adjustable phase-inverting coupling loop

A directional coupler uses non-metallic slotted spacers at the edges of a pair of coupled lines. The spacers are adjustable in their vertical position and thereby provide continuous coupling fine-adjustment. The spatial relationship between the coupled lines is therefore adjustable and does not depend upon extremely tight manufacturing tolerances.

An adjustable microwave diplexer comprising two combline filter sections (A and B). Each filter section has at least three tunable resonator elements (,and,). Non-adjacent resonator elements of one section (A) are inductively coupled by an adjustable coupling element (,), and non-adjacent resonator elements of the other section (B) are capacitively coupled by an adjustable capacitor element (,). This arrangement provides the means to achieve adjustable transmission zeros above the passband of filter A and below the passband of filter B to provide the diplexer with two highly selective filters.

Microwave diplexer arrangement

A dual band combiner for combining two frequency bands having a 2:1 relationship, e.g. 900 MHz and 1800 MHz. The combiner comprises an upper frequency bandpass filter section and an upper frequency bandstop filter. The bandpass filter section comprises two open-end resonators whose lengths are 1/2 wavelength of the upper frequency band, and the bandstop filter comprises three open-end resonators whose lengths are 1/4 wavelength of the upper frequency band. Because of the 2:1 frequency relationship pronounced selectivity-enhancing transmission zeros are produced at the lower frequency band, thereby providing a combiner that has high isolation between ports while maintaining low insertion loss.

Dual band combiner arrangement

An arrangement for adjustably coupling a radio frequency input port to a resonator element of the filter. The arrangement comprises a resilient conductor (19) which extends from the input port (15) into the electric field of a resonator element (2). The remote end of the resilient conductor resiliently abuts the point (20) of an adjustment screw (20a). Operating the screw moves the resilient conductor in relation to the electric field and alters the capacitive coupling between the input port and the resonator element for fine tuning the impedance match of the input to the filter.
